  • Well-kept rural Denbighshire site raising money for charity
  • A 10-minute drive to the beaches of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Catering on site from Friday eve to Sunday morning
Want to book yourself a break and do some good for the world at the same time? What an excellent idea – and one that you can bring to reality when you stay at Pet Rescue Fundraising Camp Site, a five-acre site in the Denbighshire countryside just outside the village of Dyserth. Profits from stays here go towards funding animal rescue and care – so perhaps it’s no surprise that dogs are welcome to join you for a little holiday here. Doggy daycare is available for those who need it and all dogs will need to be kept on a lead and supervised at all times (and you’ll need proof of full vaccination too). This location makes a splendid spot for exploring north Wales – a cycle path runs past the entrance with a link to the North Wales Coastal Route, and there are plenty of walks around too. Rhyl and Prestatyn are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for beach times, and there are castles, gardens and all sorts of other things to fill days with. You’ll probably get a bit of a warm glow from knowing that you’re supporting a charitable cause by staying here – and that’s likely to grow even stronger when you see the facilities that have been provided. A washing-up area, toilets and showers are all included, and you can boost your break even further by hiring a firepit, grass heat shields (these are required for firepits or barbecues) or a windbreak. Logs can be purchased on site for the firepits. And that’s not all – there’s also a catering area that serves up cooked breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks (hot, cold and alcoholic) as well as running events like pizza nights and hotpot gatherings. The catering is open from Friday evening to Sunday morning breakfast.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Lovely site with a great cause. Quiet site with plenty of space and loads of safe room for kids to run about. Marj and the staff are lovely and can't do enough for everyone. We stayed with EHU as it was pretty cold at night in a tent. Toilets and showers are clean. We are definitely coming back. Really handy for Dyserth and a couple of great pubs. See you again soon.

Liked: The staff are so friendly and happy to help you out, we decided to go on a very boggy week, but they helped us get on and off. Electric was fair price and the showers where fantastic

Disliked: The food cabin was only open at weekend, we treated ourselves to the chips but would say a little pricy for the potion size

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: The location, very convenient to get to Rhyl & Prestatyn with nice views, It's a relatively peaceful site & as it's a charity for rescuing pets all proceeds are going to a worthy cause. Very clean toilet facilities.

Disliked: Lack of services for motorhome despite being listed as a motorhome pitch, Couldnt fill water tank with hose as nearest tap was too far away, no proper facility for emptying waste tank. The biggest issue was more as a result of nature, But the field was EXTREMELY wet & muddy, This meant that wellies were a must at all times. When we arrived I queried if the ground was going to be solid enough for a large motorhome and was told it's ok, "just take a run up" !! Our motorhome got bogged down in the first 20 metres across the field and so had to get a 4x4 to tow us to the pitch which took probably 30 mins of messing around, and even then we couldnt position the MH in an optimal spot, once in the pitch it bogged down and that's where it was staying, Then over the few days we stayed it actually sunk deeper into the mud and when we left it took the best part of an hour, again with the help of the 4x4 to get us off the pitch & out of the field. The motorhome left the site looking like we had done a stage on the world rally championships :-(

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are very sorry about the bad weather it seems most of the country are suffering the same storms everywhere, (we did order sunshine but someone must have done a rain and wind dance request earlier:) We do have weight restrictions on the size of motorhomes and most have managed in 2nd gear as we are advertised as a all grass site, we always ask if your vehicle is front or rear wheel drive for an assisted tow if required. Luckily the 4x4 is on hand and it is always wise to have wellies at this time of year. As for filling your motorhome water tanks is it also stated on Pitchup that tanks can NOT be filled as we unfortunately are on a water meter and I did explained this, but if you need toilet flush or showers both are provided free of charge on site or Travel with your tank full (I never travel without water in my motorhome tank) as most site will eventually need to be on meters for water with the economy the way it is. But set all that aside we are very sad you feel you don't wish to visit again and should you change your mind you would be most welcome perhaps in dry weather if we get any Kind regards M & Family

Local attractions

Time to hit the coast? Take your bucket and spade to the sandy beaches of Rhyl or Prestatyn (both 10 minutes’ drive), get over to Llandudno (half an hour) to walk on the pier and ride the Great Orme tramway, or continue to Conwy (half an hour) to explore the castle. For rural walks you can stay local for the 15-minute stroll to Dyserth Falls, climb the peaks of the neighbouring Clwydian Range or dip your toes into Snowdonia National Park (40 minutes’ drive). The pretty pathways of Bodnant Garden (half an hour) are well worth a wander too. This being Wales, you’re never far from a castle – the turrets of Rhuddlan Castle (five minutes) are the closest, but TV fans may like to drop in at Gwrych Castle (15 minutes) to see where I’m A Celeb was staged.
