Camping

General

  • Spectacularly scenic rural site just outside Snowdonia National Park
  • A basecamp for adventures such as hiking, biking and wild swimming
  • Huge 1,600-metre karting circuit; café serving snacks and coffee

Adventure ahoy: Adventure Basecamp Wales is a scenic wild camping site in a peaceful rural location just outside Snowdonia National Park, with easy access to outdoor activities of all sorts. If you're into karting, zoom to here sharpish: with one of the UK's largest Motor Sports Association-approved karting circuits, this is quite possibly going to be the park of all your petrol-themed dreams…

Apart from the world-class karting, there are plenty more reasons to stick around here for quite some time: the site lays on e-bike, mountain bike and hiking adventures, with several wild biking trails and a whole heap of walking trails straight from base. If that sounds too strenuous, there are several lakes in the local area to laze around at, and the site is in a Dark Sky Reserve for idling after dark.

In between all that, Adventure Basecamp Wales guests have enthused about the team's excellent and friendly customer service and the utterly handsome views from the site. Another thing that gets a rave review here is the food: fresh bean coffee is served to keep you fuelled throughout your stay, alongside breakfast and lunch bites and homemade sugary treats.

The team highly recommends that you venture out to sample local Welsh products too, including Welsh meat, cheese, wine and local honey. There are plenty of farm shops and country pubs that your cordial hosts will be more than happy to point you towards.

Among the amenities are a sparklingly clean toilets and hot showers; free wifi is available in the main building.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Facilities/activities including Karting, Guided Adventures - Hiking, Scrambling, Climbing and Mining Tours are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

The restaurant is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

The site is in a great location. It's basic but there's everything you need if you plan on driving to all the major beauty spots in North Wales. Shame I didn't get chance to have a track day too. the karting circuit looks really good. Next time.

    Disliked:

Not a flat pitch and the weather really affects how low you can pitch on a pretty steep hill.

Campsite was very easy to find and staff were always around to help. Onsite activities such a go-karting was amazing and such a great experience.

    Disliked:

Portaloo showers did not have lock on them.
Only thing I would of throughly is that when staying at the campsite you would get a discount on the go-Karting as it on the high price scale of camping pitches.

  • Liked:

    The scenery around the campsite.

    Disliked:

We disliked having to carry our tent and equipment across a hilly, waterlogged, muddy field because all the cars were getting stuck at the bottom. The portacabin toilets in the car park were very dirty and do not appear to be regularly checked and cleaned. There was lots of rubbish on the campsite - some binbags just left there for days as well as bits of rubbish strewn all over the field. Loud music played until early hours.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review however due to storm Ellen we had an extreme amount of rain and the access to the field became heavily waterlogged therefore to prevent an inconvenience to yourselves getting your cars stuck we recommended you park in the car park right next to the field you were camping on as we had previously towed numerous cars from the field from people who attempted to get up without reporting to reception first to check in.

Over the course over the weekend we had very large and destructive families including children therefore to prevent this hassle occurring again we have made our site adults only.

With regards to the rubbish we have substantial facilities for everyone to dispose of their rubbish therefore the bin bags you mentioned unfortunately was due to dis-respective campers. The other rubbish blown around again was a result of storm Ellen we did our best to keep maintaining it.

As for the toilets again the weather was not helpful though we did our best to ensure they remained clean the actual facilities where clean but the floor was muddy due to the weather conditions.

Right next to this are two underground attractions: Bounce Below, a trampoline park in the old slate caverns, and Go Below, where brave contenders journey through a mountain via a series of challenges ranging from ziplining through caverns to boating across a subterranean lake and abseiling down to the deepest point in the UK.
