  • Quiet campsite with Eryri views 15 minutes’ drive from Betws-y-Coed
  • Adventure Parc Snowdonia and Zip World Llechwedd half an hour’s drive
  • Lakeside pitches behind a traditional pub with dining and a games room
Like the sound of holidaying under canvas with a backdrop of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) peaks? Haste ye to the Y Giler Arms, a traditional country inn just off the A5 (a former coaching route), for tucked behind the pub is a camping field overlooking a lake and edged by the meanders of the River Merddwr. For exercise junkies, this peaceful spot is close to the outdoor-sports hub of Betws-y-Coed (15 minutes’ drive). If you’d rather stay put and drift around on site, the pub opens every evening, where you can be sure of a warm Welsh welcome along with local real ales and home-cooked food served in the lakeside restaurant. Hot breakfasts are also available – just be sure to order yours from the bar the night before – and there are plenty of distractions if the kids get restless, from a darts board and pool table to a variety of board games for you to borrow. Any accompanying dogs are welcome in the public bar and games room, but must be kept on a lead and under close control at all times on the camping field, as it is surrounded by farmland with lots of grazing sheep. And finally, a few practicalities: the site comprises two acres of level pitches, with easy access for towing vehicles. Facilities include modern shower blocks (one with disabled access), a washing-up area, electric hook-ups and water points.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Location is set looking over to Snowdonia. Camping is adjacent to the Giler Arms which is very popular for the restaurant. The fact they offer a takeaway for breakfast is a bonus

Disliked: No fault of the site due to the recent wet weather but the ground was very soft in places.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Excellent pitch. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The pitch was level and all facilities close to hand. The walk around the lake was pretty and there was enough space to walk the dog by the river. The toilets and showers were clean and the water was hot. The pub was dog friendly and welcoming; and the big fire was cosy and warm. The barmaids and proprietor were so friendly and helpful and obliging. They couldn't do enough for us. The beer was tasty and the food was delicious; the menu was great with good vegetarian options. The site is a really good base to explore North Wales. Wifi and electricity is free. Password in the bar. We were lucky with the weather during the day and the sunset was stunning. Wonderful views of Snowdon and surrounding mountains. So peaceful and quiet. Our sleep was good. Thank you for a great stay.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Good location. Pub was clean and had a games room and a real fire which was great on a cold damp night. Food was ok.

Disliked: Lack of information and signage. Bar staff not very welcoming or helpful. We have had a lot of wet weather but the grass pitches were still in use but we did get stuck. we got out thanks to having some old levelling blocks with us.

Liked: The facilities were great and the scenery was beautiful. The pub itself was really nice, like a quaint little pub fresh out of hot fuzz, without the cult. Amazing pint of Guinness too.
