  • Simple and scenic farm site in the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Brecon and walks up Pen y Fan
  • Dog-friendly pitches with a minimum guest age of 14
Small, simple and surrounded by stunning scenery – that’s the setup at Pwllyn Farm Camping, part of a farm in the Brecon Beacons. This spot is full of rural atmosphere but it’s handy to note that it’s only a 15-minute drive to Brecon (a journey that runs along A roads all the way). Pitches at this peaceful Powys location are small in number, well spaced and designed to make the most of the setting: they’re mown around the edges of around 20 acres of hay and wildflower meadows, with lovely views over surrounding hills and fields towards Pen y Fan. Facilities on site include five toilets, two showers, two washing-up areas, a charging point for mobile phones, a communal fridge and freezer for your icepacks. A communal cooking area and eating area with stoves and utensils is also provided. There is a cassette toilet/black waste disposal point, and all taps on the farm provide drinking water. Rubbish and recycling can be placed in the large red bin by the campers' barn. Firepits are available to hire on site for a small charge, or you are welcome to bring your own as long as they are raised off the ground and do not scorch the grass. Getting out to see more of the gorgeous surroundings is easy from here: footpaths run directly from the farm onto Mynydd Illtyd Common or up onto the nearby hills for some stunning scenery. If you’re up for stretching your legs further, there are miles of footpaths and bridleways to wander along in the area. Dogs are welcome to stay at Pwllyn Farm as long as they’re accompanied by a responsible owner; the quiet atmosphere of the site also means that it’s only suitable for guests aged 14 and over.

What customers say

This well-maintained campsite offers generous, spacious pitches amidst beautiful natural scenery and stunning views, particularly of Pen Y Fan. Guests consistently praise the clean facilities, including well-equipped communal barn areas with cooking amenities and honesty shops. The peaceful, relaxed atmosphere and the option to choose pitches in secluded fields are highly appreciated. It's ideal for walkers, with easy access to local trails. While occasional issues with shower queues were mentioned during peak times, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Really great facilities for a non-electric campsite - there’s a main campers barn with clean toilet/showers, shared washing up and cooking space with kitchenware to borrow. The barn also had a collection of board games which the owners let us borrow and take back to our pitch. So much information in the barn about the nature, wildlife, and walks of Brecon and the surrounding national park.
The fields for pitching were massive with plenty of variety- wildflowers in the middle of the fields. The field we stayed in had amazing views of Pen Y Fan. Would really recommend for all adult campers - single night stay or week long. Great location, would stay again.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Great facilities at this rural, farm campsite. Plenty of space in their many fields, with superb views of Pen Y Fan and Corn Du peaks. Will definitely recommend and return. (No electric hookups, but this was perfect for us).

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked What a lovely site! The pitches are well-spaced, so you're not on top of each other. Everyone has plenty of space to really appreciate the wonderful surroundings. There's a lot of variety in pitches, too, and different fields to choose from.

When we arrived, we were greeted in the communal area and told to go take a walk around and pick our pitch. The 'welcome' barn had communal cooking facilities, toilets, showers, a little kitchen, fridge, sofas and a little honesty shop.

We pitched up and took the dog for a wander around the site, down to a small stream. We chose one of the pitches further away from the toilets, but it wasn't a problem to walk back and forth. Overall, it has everything you need and is located in such a lovely spot. We will be back and hope to explore some more walks and the surroundings a bit more as we only stayed one night.

Liked We really enjoyed staying at the Pwllyn Farm! Even though it was a busy bank holiday weekend, there was plenty of space, quiet and privacy, comfortable toilets and showers, beautiful bird and horse company, and incredible views at Pen y Fan. We will come back!

Local attractions

Being in the Brecon Beacons National Park, there are of course heaps of fabulous walking routes around. A good place to start for ideas is the visitor centre 20 minutes’ walk away, and it’s also possible to head straight out from the farm to locations like Fan Frynych mountain or Craig Cerrig-gleisiad nature reserve – both of which are about an hour and 15 minutes away on foot. Time your strolls to bring you to Mynydd Illtyd Common late in the day, as it’s often treated to some spectacular sunsets. Other popular hiking spots nearby include the fabulous Four Falls Walk (25 minutes’ drive) and Craig-y-Nos Country Park (20 minutes). You might also like to tackle a climb of Pen y Fan (15 minutes) or head to Llangorse Lake (20 minutes) for a day of watersports. For a break from all this activity, head to Brecon (15 minutes) for a tour of the cathedral and Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh, go underground at the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (20 minutes) or take a couple of drams of Welsh whisky on a tour of Penderyn Distillery (20 minutes).
