  • Low-impact wild camping meadow with woodlands walks on site
  • A short drive to Glyndwr’s Way and Offa’s Dyke Path
  • Walk to two local pubs; breakfasts and evening meals to order on site
Wild camping in Mid Wales on your wishlist? Waste no time in getting to Summer Meadow Camping, a dog-friendly wild camping meadow with woodland walks on site and moorland and upland walking from the doorstep. Private, off grid and low impact, the spacious grassy pitches are eco-friendly and back to basics: so come here for your digital detox, wildlife watching and a relaxed time in the meadow and woodlands. Pack your kit (not forgetting the torch), head over and park beside your pitch. Next to the Wales-England border, this is a peaceful spot in the countryside with no lighting out of consideration for the local wildlife (this also means excellent stargazing due to the site having no light pollution). Dogs are welcome (on leads, please); the aim is to make memories and leave nothing but footprints. Purchase wood and charcoal on site if you’ve brought along a barbecue or firepit (keep them off the ground, so as not to burn the pastures). There are no facilities beyond a portable toilet and a mains water tap with running cold water. If you don't fancy cooking, just order from a range of homecooked farmhouse breakfasts and evening meals to be delivered directly to your pitch. There’s a country pub in Felindre (10 minutes’ walk) for drinks only or a pub serving food in Beguildy (half an hour). Stroll through the Wilding Woods above the meadow, which has natural springs, wildflowers, streams and grassy glades. The site was untouched for 20 years and slowly re-wilded from its previous use growing Christmas trees. There are bluebells, dog rose, stitchwort, pignuts, silver fir trees and plenty of birdlife and wildlife that have found their way back (red kites, jays and owls included).

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Location and simplicity of the site, but still near a road. Natural environment and plenty of space.

Disliked: Not as secluded as I may have liked, but that is inevitable if you want to have a car with you

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Pretty field and some good walks in area. Only one other person on site which is amazing in school holidays! Level pitches. No phone signal , internet, so little distraction.

Disliked: Far too close to quite a busy road. The peace and quiet , low impact, wildlife haven elements are ruined by the road. Water pressure is incredibly poor on the tap. Far too expensive for what you get in comparison to other similar sites because basically you are parking up in a field with a tap .

From the manager: Hi, Thank you for your positive feedback! We have had water pressure issues but has since been solved so I apologise for that! We understand it’s not too everyone’s taste but take your opinions onboard and respect your views. Thankyou Robert

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: A pristine meadow perfect for camping! Only 3 tents on the Friday and just me on Saturday, so I felt reassured that I could keep my car next to my pitch. I really liked that there was absolutely no phone reception, so no distractions and perfect for proper relaxation. Prompt and friendly communication from the host; the campsite was well signposted. Buzzards and Red Kites joined me overhead as I ate breakfast on Sunday, a real treat!!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Really lovely location, with great views and access to the Glyndŵr's Way. We had the option to order takeaway food so we had lasagne with salad for dinner and then granola with fruit and yogurt for breakfast - which were all very nice! We also requested a fire pit for the evening which was easy to use and we had the option of buying logs as we didn’t bring our own. The owner was friendly and enthusiastic - making us feel welcome. Overall we had a lovely stay.

Disliked: Very basic facilities with no electric - so not for everyone, however suited us as we enjoy a more ‘wild camping’ experience.
