  • Dog-friendly Powys site close to the banks of the River Wye
  • A 45-minute walk from Hay-on-Wye, with canoe hire available nearby
  • Pebble beaches where guests can set up a firepit or barbecue
A location close to the banks of the River Wye is a good start for Digeddi Wildlife Camping… Then add to that gorgeous river views, well-spaced pitches and pebble beaches where guests can watch the sunset, and you’ve got the recipe for quite the scrumptious stay. Also rather appetising is the fact that Digeddi Wildlife Camping is only a 45-minute walk from Hay-on-Wye, a town famed for its bookshops. There are canoe hire companies within five minutes’ drive of the site who will gladly organise a day’s river tour, ending at a pub for a pint and a snack in typical British fashion too. Whether you’re on a solo jaunt or on a family get-together, feel free to launch any water crafts from the designated point on site instead if you like. If the mountains are calling your name instead and pony trekking sounds like an ace way to experience them, just ask for the details at reception. As a family-run site, all of the team have a hand in maintenance, cleaning and welcoming guests (and they all have heads full of useful information too). The guests’ wellbeing is always at the front of their minds, of course. When it comes to practical matters, there are hot showers housed in a horse trailer on site and shops, pubs, cafés, restaurants, a supermarket, a cinema and a post office in Hay-on-Wye.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Nice welcome, great secluded pitch right by the river - no other pitch in sight. The mains WC & Shower were a few minutes walk however there were portaloo's close by which were clean and perfectly acceptable to us. Shower was a good pressure and hot. First time visit to Brecon was good - pleasantly suprised. There didn't appear to be a safe walk into Hay, however the owner told us of a route avoiding the main road (which we didn't do as our 2 night stay had temperatures of 27+ degrees C, and too hot for the dog)

Disliked Nothing.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked We got a pitch by the river and it was perfect, my two children absolutely love nature so it was great for them they saw so many birds, bats and tadpoles. Having the fire pit was awesome too as we got to stay up and watch the bats. The owner was really lovely making sure everything was ok for us and reassuring us that they would tow us if we got stuck! We always get stuck in our van but luckily was all good with the weather this holiday. It was really peaceful and even at the weekend when more people arrived we still had loads of space and enjoyed flying kites and playing games. We came to the campsite as it was close to the Hay Festival and took us about 5 minutes to drive in each day, also perfect for getting to Hay On Wye too. Toilets and showers were really nice and kept cleaned and stocked up throughout our stay, they are a bit of a walk from where we pitched we didn’t mind as I like a walk but others might want to pitch a bit closer.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The setting of the campsite is fabulous. Returning for a third time, we chose to stay by the river and thoroughly enjoyed splashing, catching fish and seeing otters.

The pitches are a great size and I love campsites where you don't feel on top of your neighbours.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely friendly welcome. As close to wild as we would want. Sat by the river, fire pit burning, with a bottle of beer in hand, heaven. Used the portaloo as we were in the bottom field and showers in a horsebox.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Peaceful site with large pitches which are very well spaced out, even on august bank holiday weekend it didn't feel crowded. Very helpful owner and staff, showed you to your pitch on arrival and explained where everything was. Right on the river and lovely views. Hour walk in to hay on wye down a lane, or a very short drive down the main road.

Disliked Having more facilities in the field I was in would have made the stay absolutely perfect, namely a shower and some bins. Toilets were there which was great but there could be room for just one shower stall in there, the two showers in the middle field were great though, very hot water and they were clean.

Great all round

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Wonderful campsite, beautiful views of the area and sunset in the evening was stunning. The pitch had a fire pit in the ground so we could cook smores in the evenings. Our pitch was huge and secluded, we had a campervan, a tent box, and a large tent and extra car with loads of spare room! It was lovely and quiet too. The staff were friendly and came round with fire wood in the evenings. There were horses, donkeys, and a goat on the farm. The showers I had were great, not a typical campsite shower as you could actually change the temperature and pressure in these! There were 2 proper flushing toilets by the 2 showers which is always a bonus on a wild site. There are no bins so we brought our rubbish home, which we were happy to do. It was a bank holiday weekend and yet it didn't seem busy so we enjoyed our peace here. Towards the end of the weekend the portaloos began to fill up, but it's just a short walk to the flushing toilets so wasn't an issue for us. Overall we loved this site and would very happily visit again! Thank you for a wonderful stay ❤️

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Beautiful back to nature site.
Toilets are a bit of a trek, but well worth it for the tranquility.
Nice generous pitch, perfect for several tents and camper van.
Friendly hosts, will definitely go back.

Local attractions

Whether you’re a hiker or biker, there should be a trail you fancy somewhere in the local area. Biking trails are plentiful upon Hay Bluff (15 minutes’ drive), or over at The Begwns (20 minutes), which has stunning views over the Brecon Beacons. The Black Mountains (around 20 minutes) are, of course, packed with trails of all sorts, but if you’re looking to cross off the famed Brecon Beacons walk of Pen y Fan (half an hour), it’s pretty easy to reach the big peak too. Activities-wise, you’re by no means limited to hiking and biking. Gorge walking, clay pigeon shooting, archery, caving, climbing and go-karting can be booked with the activity centre five minutes’ drive away. Throw some rowing, windsurfing or paddleboarding into the mix too. Any of these makes an excellent way to experience Llangorse Lake (20 minutes), a glacial lake that has the only crannog (artificial inhabited island) in Wales and England.
