  • Well-equipped touring pitches at a rural Mid Wales site near Caersws
  • A 10-minute drive to Llanidloes and 15 minutes to Newtown
  • Restaurant, bar, adventure playground and crazy golf on site
Travelling Wales in a caravan or motorhome? Make your way to Mid Wales site Meadow Springs Country and Leisure Park for a scenic stay amid the lovely landscapes of the Trannon Valley. Pitches at this park are specifically designed for van-based stays, so they’re flat and made of hardstanding materials – and at nine square metres they’re big enough to cope with most sizes of motorhome or caravan. All pitches here are serviced, and there’s an Elsan point as well. Plenty of other facilities are provided too, to make sure that everything’s nicely convenient – a modern shower/toilet block has accessible facilities, baby changing and space for families, and there’s a utility room for washing up and laundry. Essentials all dealt with, it’s time for the fun stuff – the park has nearly four miles of scenic country pathways to stroll along, and the touring park is just next to the play area with crazy golf, an adventure playground, football and badminton. Dogs are welcome to come along and join you here, taking in the walks by your side or heading to the dog exercise area to run about off lead and meet new pals. It’s all very rural in atmosphere here, but you’re not far from amenities if you want them – it’ll take you about 20 minutes to walk to the village of Trefeglwys with its pub, or five minutes to drive to Caersws for a couple more pubs, shops and a fish and chip shop. If that’s all a bit too far away, it’s handy to know that Arthur’s Restaurant & Bar is on hand right there in the park for meals and drinks; as it gets busy, you may need to book a table in advance.

Liked: Beautiful clean site with so much to do. We spent the afternoon playing foot golf & took our dog on a 2 hour walk. Then spend the evening in the lovely on-site pub & had some dinner there too. We sat in one of the pods at the back as our dog could be there. The staff were lovely, especially the brunette lady working Friday daytime. The toilet facilities are clean and spacious.

Liked: Large site, with very large pitches in which you can pitch your caravan in any direction you want.

Disliked: Booked an adults only pitch, but due to a lot of seasonal pitches there are children on there so cannot really say it is adults only. The park states that all dogs should be on a lead at all times, this does not happen, especially with seasonal pitches, think they have own rules. As we have a dog who is wary of other dogs this put us on edge for our stay. Toilets/shower block looks lovely from the outside, but is not cleaned often enough when the site is busy, as toliet paper all over the floor, very smelly!

Liked: Staff amazing. Site is beautiful. Very well kept. Arthur’s restaurant food and service was excellent. Outdoor pods were a great experience. Like private dining and cannot fault anything.

Disliked: Not a lot to dislike but to be constructive. I didn’t like that dogs aren’t allowed in the bar but understand as it is stunning inside. However a conservatory would be really good for the colder months as most have dogs and I feel you are missing out on revenue although the pods are great. We had no hot water in the shower block on day 2 and day 4 hot water run out half way through my shower. Service points can be far away and it needs to be highlighted you need a lot of pipe for waste and water or to bring your waste caddy. I don’t bring one when on a fully serviced pitch and was very lucky to just have enough hose with me. All very minor and this site as i say is great and is still being expanded and improved. Local pub and people were welcoming and very friendly.

Liked: Just returned home from our first motorhome trip. Meadow Springs Country and Leisure park was perfect!!!! Just what we needed for our 1st trip. The owners and staff here are amazing!!!! Nothing was too much trouble. Clive, managed to fit us in for an extra night too, which was much appreciated, as we got to see the band that was on. Arthur's restaurant and bar is stunning and we spent lots of time in here. We will absolutely be back here in the not too distant future. Thank you for everything.

Liked: We enjoyed so much about this site. Lovely clean facilities, well laid out, generous sized pitches, great park for the children that was barked so accessible even after rain. There were lots of places to walk the dog. Everyone was friendly.

Disliked: Not really dislikes but a mention; the ground was quite hard and we did struggle with the pegs for a while. There was no Wi-Fi signal so we couldn't access this, but we did have good phone signal. You couldn't take your dog into the bar/ restaurant, but they had 3x pods outside that you could sit in.

Local attractions

The Mid Wales countryside is packed with places to get out for a walk among the gorgeous scenery – the Elan Valley (35 minutes) is perhaps one of the better known areas, with waterfalls, reservoirs and a great family-friendly trail along an old railway line. It’s also worth stopping by at Clywedog Dam (15 minutes) and seeking out the Source of the River Severn (half an hour). You may spot wildlife as you walk, but for guaranteed sightings, take a visit to the Red Kite Feeding Station (half an hour). For a sense of the area’s history and traditions, visit the shops in Llanidloes (10 minutes), see old crafts at Newtown Textile Museum and learn about mining life at the Silver Mountain Experience (35 minutes). Powis Castle and Garden (40 minutes) is a good bet for history buffs, art lovers, garden gurus and families alike. Fancy a breath of seaside air? Head to the west coast to visit Aberystwyth or hit the beach in Aberdyfi (both about 55 minutes).
