  • Peaceful park with river fishing and access to Glyndwr Way footpath
  • Half an hour from Powis Castle and 50 minutes from Barmouth beach
  • Within an hour's drive of Snowdonia National Park and Shropshire Hills
A river runs through it… That’s the title of a 1994 film starring Brad Pitt, and it’s also one of the many fab things about Riverbend Caravan Park in Powys. The Banwy, a shallow tributary of the Severn, flows through this peaceful Welsh park just outside the village of Llangadfan. You may not spot Brad Pitt on the riverbanks, but there are far better odds of encountering kingfishers and otters, and of catching grayling, brown trout or salmon… just bring along your fishing rod. Smaller visitors can splash about in the stream and play Pooh Sticks from the nearby stone bridge; there’s also a playground for them to hurtle around on site, and another one in the garden of the pub a minute’s walk away. If you’re all up for long walks, the 135-mile Glyndwr’s Way passes by the village and links up with the even more mammoth Offa’s Dyke Path in Welshpool, half an hour’s drive away. Back at base, the facilities are clean and well-maintained, with heated towel rails in the washrooms. Dogs are welcome at Riverbend Caravan Park, and also in the pub, which serves hot food and local ales.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Nice level pitch with water and grey waste facilities. The washroom was beautiful, pristine and warm. Three shower units with WC and one without.

Disliked: I couldn't use the showers because there was no grab rail and the floor was slippery when wet. I need a seat and could have used the WC but I noticed that there wasn't a seat in the unit without WC.

From the manager: Dear Maureen,

Thank you for your review.

We're pleased you enjoyed the peaceful pitch, water and waste facilities, and particularly the clean, warm washrooms — something we work hard to maintain.

That said, we feel it’s important to clarify a few points. Our facilities are not advertised as having grab rails nor do we claim to provide shower seats. While we understand that these features are important for some guests, it’s disappointing to be marked down for something we’ve never stated we offer, saying that we are always happy to help where we can, but it’s important that expectations are based on what’s actually provided. It may have been a good idea to talk to us first to see if we could have provided you with a stool. I would also like to clarify that our floor is non slip. At no time was it every slippery. Have you reviewed the wrong park?

Thank you again for your feedback — we’re always looking to improve where and if possible.
Kind regards

Angie Lindsey and Max.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch (premium)

Liked: Great facilities, really clean and well looked after. Beautiful site with the river running through, great for dog walks

Disliked: Noisy people on one of the longer standing caravans on the first night, shouting continued until 2am when the rain started. I’d stay again but this did ruin the first night.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Dan,
Thank you for taking the time to leave such thoughtful feedback. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the facilities and the natural beauty of the site, especially the river walks – it's wonderful to know that stood out during your stay.

We're very sorry to hear that your first night was disturbed by noise from a nearby caravan. Please know that had we been made aware at the time, we would have acted promptly to resolve the issue. Guest comfort is extremely important to us, and we’re always available to assist with any concerns during your stay.

We truly value your feedback and are pleased to hear you'd consider staying with us again. We look forward to welcoming you back for a more peaceful and enjoyable experience.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Nice location with pitchs close to the river. Secure dog waking area on the other side of the water. The showers, toilets, wash up area etc. are amazing, probably the best I've seen! Very well cleaned.

Lovely team who ate very approachable!

Pitch had water, EHU and grey water disposal drain.

Disliked: There is a pub/hotel at the top of the hill. We went up for a drink and the beer was bad. I have worked in pubs and its probably uncleaned pipes. Not linked

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch (premium)

Liked: I'm a 66 y/o solo female traveller with dog, in a camper style motorhome. I stayed for 3 nights at Riverbend at the early part of June 2025, and loved it. The site has a static van area, a seasonal pitches area, and a tourer area. The tourer area accommodates caravans, motorhomes, campervans and tent campers. The area I was in has recently (last 2 years maybe) had young privacy hedges planted and the pitches will be super when they are a little more filled out. Each pitch also had a picnic bench which had a flower decoration on it.
I didnt use the conveniences because my motorhome camper is pretty much self sufficient, but I went in and had a look and it's all absolutely lovely. The area for all the waste things is well set out, and the bins are clearly marked.
The river was probably higher than normal due to the recent rain and it was quite fast flowing, too fast and deep for paddling, but I would think it's lovely when it's a bit calmer.
The café on the main road does really good food. I only had a late breakfast, which was perfectly cooked and plenty of it, but there were some very nice early lunches being served. You can go in just for tea or coffee and don't need to eat though.
Angie and her husband, the owners, run the site to a very high standard indeed. The lawn areas are kept well trimmed and the edges of the pitches and 'roads' are kept weed free. The childrens play area has a climbing frame and a soft woodchip floor.
It's a beautiful, peaceful place and I would recommend it for either a short or long stay, and as a base for exploring the area.

Disliked: Would have liked a small enclosed area for dogs to have an off-lead play area - it doesn't need to be big, dogs can run in circles chasing a ball.

From the manager: Dear Janice,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful and detailed review – we’re absolutely delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Riverbend. It means a great deal to us to know that you found the site peaceful, well-maintained, and a comfortable base for both relaxation and exploring the area.

We’re especially pleased that you appreciated the care we put into the grounds, from the neat lawns and flower-topped picnic benches to the well-organised waste and service areas. Feedback like yours really affirms the effort we put into making the site welcoming and well cared for, and it's lovely to know that stood out to you.

Thank you also for your kind comments about Angie and her husband – they are truly dedicated to keeping Riverbend running to a high standard and ensuring guests feel at home.

Regarding your note about the dog play area – thank you for raising that. Angie did mention the off-lead dog exercise area during your stay, so it’s possible that it may have slipped your mind – which is completely understandable, especially with so much to take in. We’re really pleased to offer this space as we know how important it is for dogs to have the chance to stretch their legs and enjoy a bit of freedom.

We’re so glad to hear that you would recommend Riverbend and found it suitable for both short and longer stays. It was a pleasure to have you with us, and we’d love to welcome you back again in the future – you and your four-legged travel companion are always very welcome here.

Disliked: For me ....not a little village you could walk to for paper milk etc....bitc. too remote for me as once there we dont want to use van to get anywhere would rather walk.

From the manager: Dear Judi,

Thank you so much for your lovely review – we're thrilled to hear you found the site beautiful and appreciated the cleanliness, facilities, and friendly atmosphere. It really means a lot to us that you took the time to share such kind words, and we’re so pleased you and your dog enjoyed the walking areas and peaceful surroundings.

We completely understand your preference for being able to walk to local amenities without needing to use your van. Just to mention – Angie did point out during your stay that there is a shop located right across the road from the park, no more than a five-minute walk away. It’s a handy little spot that stocks essentials like milk, bread, aswell as a cafe . It’s easy to miss if you’re not aware, so we thought it might be worth highlighting again for any future visits.

Thank you again for your feedback – it helps us improve and also gives future guests a great insight into what to expect. We hope to welcome you back again soon for another relaxing break in the countryside!

Disliked: Pitches very close feels crammed in. Lack of signal and no on site wifi.

Thank you for your feedback and 10/10.
We're glad you enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, the helpfulness of our warden, Paul, and the convenient areas for dog walking and kids to play. We want to note that we don't advertise on-site WiFi, and while we understand the importance of good signal, we aim to provide a more relaxed, unplugged and connection experience for our guests away from ipads and mobile phones. It was Great to see the children loved the river, walking, games and BBQs.

Local attractions

One very fine way to visit Welshpool involves steaming in courtesy of the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, from Llanfair Caereinion (15 minutes’ drive). Once in town, you can continue the historical theme with wanders round the Powysland Museum and tours of Powis Castle, a medieval fortress housing the treasures Robert Clive brought back from India; both are half an hour by car. Treasures of different kind surround Gregynog Hall, also half an hour away: 750 acres of estate include Grade I-listed formal gardens and a nature reserve of ancient oak woodlands where you might see hares, wood warblers and horseshoe bats. Mazes, myths, mine descents and craft workshops are on the menu at King Arthur’s Labyrinth in Corris, 45 minutes away, along with transport nostalgia at the steam railway museum. If it’s a vintage seaside experience you’re seeking, beetle over to Barmouth (50 minutes) for wide sands, safe seas, donkey rides and candy floss, or for something stranger, make the hour and 10-minute trip to Portmeirion, a fantastical Italian fishing village with a scifi past. Depending on which way you point yourself, an hour’s car journey can take you hiking round Lake Bala and rafting upon it, or rambling the high ridges of the Stiperstones National Nature Reserve in the Shropshire Hills.
