Local attractions

Furnace is surrounded by a beautiful rural landscape and a stunning waterfall. The village is named after the furnace which was originally constructed around 1755 for smelting iron ore, with fuel obtained from local woods and stored upstairs in the building. Neighbouring the local Ynys-Hir RSPB bird reserve means you will definitely need to bring your binoculars! The Dyfi Osprey Project is one of Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust’s flagship projects based on our Cors Dyfi Reserve near Machynlleth on the west coast of mid Wales, is a great place to visit and take the whole family. Excellent food is also served here. If you are ready for an immersive culinary experience Ynyshir is an out of this world dining experience, you must book ahead though. Discover the historic market town of Machynlleth which is only a short drive away has a flurry of visitors attending the market every Wednesday. It has a supermarket, post office, railway and vast number of restaurants. King Arthur’s Labyrinth is just up the road from here or spend the day on the Tal-y-Llyn Railway or in the delightful harbour village of Aberdovey, with its pubs, restaurants and lovely sandy beaches. The University coastal town of Aberystwyth is in the opposite direction with its dolphin spotting in the summer months, Cliff Railway and Steam Railway to Devil Bridge Falls. This area of Wales is an enthusiast's paradise with many walking routes and the Welsh Coastal Path is just on the doorstep and plentiful places for dog walking. This is a wonderful location for mountain biking and water sports with the Ceredigion coastline. Ynyslas sand dunes and seaside resort of Borth is only a short distance away.
