Riverside walk

  • Peaceful Dyfi valley site by a riverside, opened in 2019
  • A 15-minute drive from Machynlleth and 35 from the seaside at Barmouth
  • River beach, communal firepits and barbecues/campfires allowed
What might you adventurously fancy first when you arrive at Dyfi Adventure Campsite? A hike off into the Welsh hills, mountains and lush green countryside of the Dyfi valley? A hurtle down acclaimed mountain biking trails… or climbing to heady heights around the trails of Snowdonia National Park just to the north…? Or you might care to take things most easily instead... If your sense of adventure extends to peace, quiet and beaches, all is sorted here too: Dyfi Adventure is in a land of spectacular views and gentle strolls, next to the River Dyfi for waterside ambles, paddles and a lounge on the riverside beach. More beaches – wide, wild and sandy – are within driving distance at Aberdyfi and Barmouth, each 35 minutes away. And then? An evening around the campfire, but of course – both campfires and barbecues are sensibly allowed here and there’s a communal firepit if you’re still feeling sociable after your day mountain biking (bragging encouraged). The closest big town for supplies is Machynlleth, 15 minutes’ drive away. Please note that this site has a quiet hours policy in place after 10pm (there should be no noise at all after 11).

What customers say

This peaceful campsite offers spacious pitches with stunning river views and direct access for swimming. Guests praise the friendly owners, clean and modern facilities including hot showers and flushable toilets, and the availability of fire pits. It's ideally located for mountain biking and Mach Loop viewing. Some reviews mention occasional midges and the need for facilities to be updated, but most find it excellent value and highly recommend returning.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Maybe the view of mountains and river.

Disliked We did not enjoy the campsite at all, when arrived the bins were overflowing at the entrance and the smell was horrendous!! The toilet's were so smelly and we had to flush if needed as it stated on the door. They barely flushed! We will not be returning here again

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The location is great, people at our stay were quiet. Families, larger groups. Though no one was on site, but it didn’t have an impact for everyone to respect each others.
The owners were coming to site on daily basis few times a day.

Disliked Toilets and showers must be improved. We survived, but it was extreme.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We enjoyed our 2 night stay. Pitch was a good size well spaced circles cut out in the medow. There was the basic rustic facilities on site, with a river you can cool down in. Just turn up pick where you want to camp and that's it.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Spacious pitches, well spaced out too from others. Quiet & scenic. Situated under the Mach Loop for those interested. Hot water showers and flushing toilets which were well stocked. Firewood available on site for a reasonable price for small firepits provided. Second time visiting and definitely will be back again!

Disliked Facilities could do with a bit of TLC. Compared to last visit, the floor of the toilet huts wobble a bit depending where you move. Might just need reinforcing. Both toilet and shower doors have fair sized gaps in when closed, which was a little unnerving if people were around.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Seeing the planes fly past.

Disliked The pitches were small. The toilets were horrible, no sink to wash your hands. The showers were dirty, no fake plants can make it better. Didn’t even stay at the campsite because it was so bad. The website is misleading.

Liked We loved this campsite.
Off grid, but despite that the toilets and showers are fantastic. Rustic, but perfect.
Stunning location, the river is beautiful and very quiet.
No loud or large groups when we were there so it was ideal.
My son and I spent the week there and will definitely come back.

Liked Disappointed. I had a crash on motorway on way to site with 3 children. I emailed the guy and texted and explained what happened and car a write off. No response or offer to partially refund.

Local attractions

The Dyfi valley has stellar mountain biking in the land around Machynlleth and the Dyfi forest. Hire a bike and helmet in town if you haven’t brought your own, then set off on the nine and a half-mile Cli-mach X trail around the southern part of the forest, or go for one of the Mach trails setting out from Machynlleth. A day in Machynlleth should also be slotted into your schedule, to spend an afternoon around the swish Centre for Alternative Technology or picking up Welsh produce at the big Wednesday market. If you’re a hiker rather than a biker, walking paths cut through the town too: set off on the 135-mile Glyndwr's Way running through Powys from Knighton to Welshpool, or the 108 miles of the Dyfi Valley Way, meandering all the way along the River Dyfi and back down the other bank.
