  • Peaceful Dyfi valley site by a riverside, opened in 2019
  • A 15-minute drive from Machynlleth and 35 from the seaside at Barmouth
  • River beach, communal firepits and barbecues/campfires allowed
What might you adventurously fancy first when you arrive at Dyfi Adventure Campsite? A hike off into the Welsh hills, mountains and lush green countryside of the Dyfi valley? A hurtle down acclaimed mountain biking trails… or climbing to heady heights around the trails of Snowdonia National Park just to the north…? Or you might care to take things most easily instead... If your sense of adventure extends to peace, quiet and beaches, all is sorted here too: Dyfi Adventure is in a land of spectacular views and gentle strolls, next to the River Dyfi for waterside ambles, paddles and a lounge on the riverside beach. More beaches – wide, wild and sandy – are within driving distance at Aberdyfi and Barmouth, each 35 minutes away. And then? An evening around the campfire, but of course – both campfires and barbecues are sensibly allowed here and there’s a communal firepit if you’re still feeling sociable after your day mountain biking (bragging encouraged). The closest big town for supplies is Machynlleth, 15 minutes’ drive away. Please note that this site has a quiet hours policy in place after 10pm (there should be no noise at all after 11).

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The scenery & Machynlleth. There's a great bookshop in the town (Penrallt Gallery Bookshop) & sweet cafe (Chakra Cafe).

Disliked: Noisy campers for 3 nights running. Rude, inconsiderate, disrespectful, solipsistic. Unfortunately, the owner didn't really address the issue & I left a day early.

From the manager: Hi Dianne. It might have been nice if you had at least mentioned that I did come down two nights in a row to try and fix this for you. And also gave you a full refund for the night you didn't stay. Unfortunately the campers you had spoken about took offence when you asked them to put their children to bed at 8pm on a bank holiday weekend. Cheers Sian

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: field entrance was a mud bath. Few carpets to try drive over but not effective. Mud track to the pitches. Tun shack for toilets and showers. Only small site but the entrance could gave been dealt with by using stone chippings or metal carpet that are used people stuck in mud.

Liked: Beautiful location, quiet and close to nature. Camping pitches are well spaced and maintained. Facilities were simple but clean.

Local attractions

The Dyfi valley has stellar mountain biking in the land around Machynlleth and the Dyfi forest. Hire a bike and helmet in town if you haven’t brought your own, then set off on the nine and a half-mile Cli-mach X trail around the southern part of the forest, or go for one of the Mach trails setting out from Machynlleth. A day in Machynlleth should also be slotted into your schedule, to spend an afternoon around the swish Centre for Alternative Technology or picking up Welsh produce at the big Wednesday market. If you’re a hiker rather than a biker, walking paths cut through the town too: set off on the 135-mile Glyndwr's Way running through Powys from Knighton to Welshpool, or the 108 miles of the Dyfi Valley Way, meandering all the way along the River Dyfi and back down the other bank.
