  • Single lodge on a farm surrounded by 12 acres of countryside
  • A 25-minute drive from Brecon and half an hour from Pen Y Fan
  • Woodfired hot tub, stone firepit and barbecue; lake on site
With a lake, a large vegetable patch, woodland walks and views of the Brecon Beacon National Park’s highest peak Pen Y Fan, The Good Life Wales is high on outdoor luxuries. That goes for the accommodation too, which consists of a single lodge surrounded by 12 acres of Welsh countryside on Blaenclydach Farm, 20 minutes’ drive away from Llandovery, 25 minutes from Brecon and half an hour from Pen Y Fan. Feeling called to the mountains? The boundaries of the Brecon Beacons National Park are five minutes’ drive away. Relaxation? That’s no trouble either, with a lake to picnic at on site and an outdoor deck at the lodge with a sofa, table and chairs, a coffee table, a natural stone fire-pit and a barbecue with a tripod grill over the fire. For more outdoor time, dunk in your private wood-fired hot tub (just note there are no bubbles – and you'll need to heat it yourself with the wood provided). Inside the lodge, there's a bathroom, a shower, a living room with a log-burner (logs are supplied, as it’s the only form of heating) and a fully fitted kitchen with a baby oven, two hobs and a separate microwave (plus lots of handy bits including tea, coffee, olive oil and salt and pepper). Water on site comes from a natural spring – this really is the good life… Roger and Debbie, the owners, moved to Wales back in 2018 and have paired together their hospitality and design experience to fashion this getaway for couples to unwind in the Welsh countryside. They have a gardening business, which the site clearly benefits from: as you wander you'll see a half-acre veg garden, riverside and woodland walks, hanging baskets, hammocks, wild meadows and tree-lined pathways.

Local attractions

Making your break into the Brecon Beacons National Park? The Good Life Wales is excellently placed for that. Tap into some of its most popular hikes, including the climb up Pen Y Fan (half an hour’s drive) and the gorgeous Four Waterfalls Walk (45 minutes) past a series of waterfalls in the south of the park. Usk Reservoir (20 minutes) has a more leisurely stroll in store, and of course, the towns are a softer day out on your leg muscles. In Brecon (25 minutes), you might want to go for a pedal along the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal towpath and in Llandovery (20 minutes), you might end up exploring the 13th-century castle. The Dolaucothi Gold Mines (40 minutes) are another hot historical spot, hailing from the Roman times.
