  • Static caravan on a family-run site in the Ceredigion countryside
  • A 15-minute drive from Aberaeron beach; half an hour from New Quay
  • Dining room with sofas, a kitchen and a barbecue on site
Packing lists for those staying at Pentwyn Pods and Fishery are likely to include plenty of kit to help you make the most of the stack of activities available in the local area (think binoculars, bikes and hiking boots paraphernalia)… so it’s handy that you needn’t bother to focus too much on remembering to bring all the trappings of daily life with you too. The static caravan at this Ceredigion site is one that’s cosy and well equipped with bits and bobs – kitchen kit and bedding are already in place, and your new temporary home also has a bathroom, dining room and sofas to sprawl out on after days filling up on fresh air. And what alfresco activities might you choose around here? If you stashed mountain bikes on the car, take them over to Bwlch Nant Yr Arian, 40 minutes away, to tackle the trails through the forest. Binoculars will come in handy here, for spotting red kites; keep them to hand when you head coastwards too, as Cardigan Bay is a popular playground for dolphins and other marine beasts. Once back at your Bethania base, there are some spectacular views to admire as you prep supper either in your kitchen or on a barbecue (supplies for such things can be sourced 20 minutes’ drive away in Tregaron). A pub and family-friendly restaurant are a few minutes’ drive away if you're of the opinion that hols means a break from making your own meals.

Liked: Great site, very quiet and tranquil, you can see the stars at night. Caravan was lovely, had everything you needed

Disliked: A cover over the hot tub from the trees would be nice

Local attractions

Bikes at the ready… Bwlch Nant Yr Arian (40 minutes’ drive) is the place to take to two wheels, either on the waymarked trails or the challenges of the skills park. Walking trails, an orienteering trail and play areas are also around the lake, and it’s worth timing your visit to take in the daily red kite feeding session too. For more animal encounters, aim for Borth Wild Animal Kingdom and the Magic of Life Butterfly House (both 40 minutes), or set sail from New Quay harbour (half an hour) in search of dolphins, porpoises and seals. Stick to the coast for sea-view walks if you like, or head inland to seek out the waterfall by Devil’s Bridge (50 minutes). Rides on the Vale of Rheidol Railway (25 minutes) can show you some of the scenery at a slow pace, while tours of the Silver Mountain Experience (40 minutes) show you what lies beneath the surface.
