  • Bell tent glamping with views of the Irish Sea and the Llŷn Peninsula
  • A 15-minute drive to Ceredigion Coast Path; 20 minutes to Aberaeron
  • Camping kitchen, outdoor dining area and firepit on a four-acre meadow
So you want to be alone? You’ve found the right spot then. Here at The Moleshill Retreat, near Llanon in Ceredigion, there is just one gloriously solitary glamping tent in a wild meadow backed by pine trees and offering views to the Irish Sea across the Llŷn Peninsula. Prettied up with festive fairy lights, the star bell tent has a comfy mattress on a hand-made bed and roll-out beds for the kids – up to a maximum of two adults and two children. All bedding is provided, along with a fully kitted-out wooden camping kitchen with a gas oven and wooden dining table. On warmer days you can eat alfresco or cosy up around the firepit to see the stars twinkling on clear nights. For your morning frying pan, fresh organic eggs are available. A few steps away from the pitch is a wooden cabin with an eco-loo; a shower is also available a short distance away. Luxury touches include a sauna and plunge pool – book on arrival – and there’s a trampoline on which you can channel your inner child. Eco-credentials on this site are high – the owners are running a permaculture project and have planted over 1,000 native trees in the last few years. Lots of brilliant walks are on your doorstep too, as there's direct access to a 600-acre woodland.

Bell tent

Liked: We had a brilliant time at Moleshill Retreat. It's a fantastic location with spectacular views over Cardigan Bay and a whole field to yourself. The bell tent was bigger than we expected and very cozy and comfortable, there is a proper double bed with lovely bedding. The kitchen and dining cabin is real luxury, a place to shelter if the weather isn't going your way and the kitchen is better equipped than ours at home! Lara has thought of everything and there were so many personal touches. The sauna looks amazing even though we didn't have opportunity to use it unfortunately as we had small kids with us. This is the perfect getaway to relax, feel closer to nature and watch some amazing sunsets. We'll definitely be back. Diolch yn fawr Lara.

Local attractions

Active families, if hill-walking is your thing, the Ceredigion Coast Path (15 minutes’ drive) has scenic sea views from the clifftops. Heading east, the rugged wilderness around Pumlumon Fawr is a remote spot for quiet strolls and magnificent hill views, while more challenging is the climb up Cader Idris (both an hour), which you can combine with a dip in serene Llyn Cau lake on your way up. Talking of water, the coast is only a short drive away too. Llanrhystud (10 minutes) and Llanon (15 minutes) villages both have beaches where you can swim or fish, and from the little-known sands at Cei Bach, it’s a short walk to New Quay (both half an hour) if you time the tides right. New Quay is popular for its harbourside pubs and Dylan Thomas Trail, while the harbour town of Aberaeron (20 minutes) is justly famous for its fish-and-chip shops and honey ice-cream. Both towns are known for the chance to spot bottlenose dolphins playing in the waves of Cardigan Bay.
