  • Quiet site two miles from Penbryn beach
  • Ten-minute drive from the Wales Coastal Path
  • Pitches with views of the sea
Want to feel the sand between your toes without finding it in every nook and cranny later on? Brynawelon Caravan and Camping Park, half a mile from the village of Sarnau in west Wales, is the best of both worlds. While away the day on Penbryn beach, two miles away, then return to the blessedly sand-free site. Brynawelon is well placed for exploring the Ceridigion countryside and the Welsh coast: walkers can join the Wales Coastal Path, which passes Penbryn beach and spans the length of the Ceridigion coastline and beyond, or follow trails and loops around Cardigan, 20 minutes' drive away. For a more urban experience, stop off in the town of Cardigan where there's plenty to do, like visiting the medieval Cilgerran Castle or shopping at the Guildhall Market. When you want to spend time on the sand, Penbryn isn’t your only option – Aberport, Tresaith and Llangranog beaches are all within 10 minutes’ drive, and are top spots for swimming and surfing. Brynawelon is in a quiet coastal area, but you don’t have to feel stranded. In Sarnau, less than 10 minutes’ walk from the site, you can stock up on camping gear at the army surplus store or call in to the farm shop to pick up some Welsh delicacies. For any other essentials, a quick trip to Brynhoffnant village one mile away should take care of everything.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Loved it.. Super friendly, clean and tidy everywhere. I think it's a relatively new site, lots of new plants.. Loving the fresh herbs scattered about the site, in pots and planted out, we had fresh parsley on steaks last night. Books and dvds available to borrow and essential shopping in the reception cabin. Loved it and definitely recommend!!

Disliked: Only the chilly wind and I don't think that Brynawelon can do anything about it..

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Great located site, owner was really helpful and friendly. The pitches were really generous and level and ours had a great views towards the sea. The facilities were very clean. Didn’t mind paying for the electric as an addition, it only worked out at about £3 a night which is good value. Would definitely recommend and a great base for exploring the area.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Such a friendly owner! Really peaceful. Only one other camper so very quiet. Great base to tour Ceredigion's stunning coastline such as New Quay, Cwmtydu & Llangrannog etc, and also only just under an hour away from the Mach Loop to get your plane fix! Facilities were basic, but clean and adequate.

Disliked: It would be great if there was either an enclosed area or a dog walk for our 4-legged friends. I have an Assistance Dog and found it hard to walk her anywhere. The toilets & showers could be updated to bring them in line with other campsites, though they were spotlessly clean. It's a shame that electric had to be paid in a meter, though I totality get why given the increase of utilities costs.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel pitch

Liked: Great site, neat and tidy. Loved the different coloured buildings, shower block, laundry etc. Thank you Karen for being so helpful. Storm Agnes did her best to spoil things and to a certain degree did but we’ll def be back to explore the area properly. No children so cannot comment on suitability.

Liked: A beautiful site to stay at. The showers and toilets were lovely and clean. Karen was very friendly and welcoming. The site was colourful and neat with nice hedges and plants. There is a fantastic library for adults and children and DVDs to loan. plenty of information on places of interest. The layout of the site is ideal and we would definitely stay here again.

Disliked: Nothing here to dislike .

Fully-serviced grass and gravel pitch

Liked: The site was clean and nicely laid out. The pitches were level. The site was empty to quiet. In a lovely location.

Disliked: The fact I was told that the expensive £83 for 2 nights (for 2 adult + 3 dogs) did not include electric, although I was given to understand when booking that it was a total amount which to me me everything was included! (Apparently pitchup’s fault). Bearing in mind we were the only people on the whole site I had to beg for a friend to come and see me after work for half an hour, her husband wasn’t allowed to come. And there was concern that she might use what few facilities there were ‘like the toilet’. The final straw was when asking for the wi fi code she said there wasn’t any!

From the manager: Unfortunately due to the use of fan heaters being used in awnings and tents not to mention electric cars being charged through caravan's and motorhomes, with extortionate commercial electric charges, we have had no choice but to install a smart card metering system for the electric used on pitches. All customers now only pay for what they use and are refunded any credit at the end of their stay. In the terms and conditions of your booking of which you agreed to, it clearly states that we don't allow visitors on site. I don't recall any begging and looking back at the CCTV in reception only proves that at no time was it mentioned about her husband. Free visitors cost business' money. In 2023 so far Septic tank emptying £1750.00 Metered water £2000.00 Toilet paper, soap, cleaning materials £350.00 Commercial General waste and recycling £3540.00 A visitor is going to use water (cup of tea) Use of the toilet (even if it's in your motorhome cassette it's going to be emptied into our septic tank.) Rubbish in the Bin (initially extra rubbish in you motorhome bin, later into our commercial bin.) We have a choice we can either not have visitors and keep the costs down for customers that are paying to stay on site or assume that every pitch is going to want visitors and adjust the pitch prices to accommodate this. We do not advertise the shower block on site as a free public convenience and I simply just don't want to have to clean toilets for free! Would you? We do not advertise that we offer Wifi. Before complaining and assuming that your so entitled I would advise that you read your terms and conditions!

Local attractions

If you want history with a twist, pay a visit to one of the unusual museums in the area. At the Internal Fire museum, less than five minutes away by car, see one of the oldest working diesel engines in the world. Follow the flock to the National Wool Museum and see the story of wool from fleece to fabric or embrace your inner child at the Museum of Childhood, both 20 minutes from Brynawelon. Experience a statelier time and take in the views of the Ceridigion countryside with a trip on one of the steam trains at Gwili Railway, Teifi Valley Railway or the Vale of Rheidol Railway, all within 45 minutes of the site. When the kids get tired of steam trains and toys (how could they, you ask…), bring them to Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park, where they can get up close with friendly farm animals and try to spot dolphins, seals and skylarks in the nature reserve. For an even sweeter experience, buzz on over to the Honey Farm in New Quay – 10 miles from Brynawelon – where you can visit the meadery, see the bees at work and have a seat in the tearoom to taste the end result. Buy honey, mead and beeswax products in the farm shop before you leave.
