  • Peaceful glamping site on six acres of woods and meadow
  • Around five minutes' drive from Aberaeron and 15 from New Quay
  • Communal room with kitchen, sofas, books, games and woodburner
Smart, six-metre yurts on an acre of meadow, within a six-acre site… it’s probably safe to say that you’re unlikely to want for space at Glan Mydyr Woodland Yurts, a secluded spot in a west Wales wooded valley on the banks of the River Mydyr. Outdoorsy life is king in this corner of Ceredigion: barbecues, campfires, cooking at your outdoor camping kitchen and stargazing are all essential features of a stay here, as is pottering around the two ponds to see what wildlife you can spot. Damp days do happen, of course, so it’s pleasing to see that some thought has been put in to facilities for wet-weather days: the cosy communal area (known as the Roost) has been kitted out with a well-equipped kitchen, comfy sofas, woodburning stove and a cupboard stacked with stuff like books and games to keep everyone entertained. Other welcome ways to keep warm include hot showers in the bathroom block (which also houses proper flushing toilets). It’s not far to the coast from your little woodland hideaway: Aberaeron’s beach and shops are a little over five minutes away by car, and popular New Quay is 15 minutes away. Walkers and cyclists can pick up the Ceredigion Coast Path from either town, and should also have a look at the fab path that runs through woodland from Llanerchaeron National Trust estate (a mile and a half away) to Aberaeron.

Local attractions

Keep the rural frolics going by taking the small sorts over to coo over the cute residents of Fantasy Farm Park (20 minutes’ drive), where you can usually get close to furry pals for a feed and a cuddle. Something more rugged in mind? Make a break for Brechfa Forest (45 minutes) for hikes and mountain bike trails. For your coastal days, the sandy beach in Aberaeron (five minutes’ drive) always a good place to start; Llangrannog (25 minutes) is another option – there are a couple of fine beaches here, and you can take a splendid circular walk around Ynys Lochtyn headland for sea views and seal spotting. Waves calling you out to sea? Take the 15-minute drive to New Quay for fishing and dolphin-spotting boat trips, or to use your own muscle power for paddleboarding, kayaking and other watersports outings. If it’s looking a tad choppy out there, take a scenic steam-powered ride on the Vale of Rheidol Railway instead, from Aberystwyth (35 minutes). Stick around in town for visits to the castle, Magic of Life butterfly house and Ceredigion Museum.
