  • Family-run park near the western end of Loch Tay
  • Loch Earn and Loch Lomond within an hour's drive
  • Laundry room on site; dogs welcome
Set in quiet countryside near the western end of Loch Tay and around an hour's drive from Loch Lomond, Cruachan Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a family-run site in a great position for sightseeing around the southern Highlands and central Scotland. Whatever kind of accommodation you opt for, you'll have access to a smart and spacious park with well-maintained amenities like a toilet and shower block and a laundry room. The site is well under a mile from the banks of Loch Tay and close to lots of other outdoor attractions: watersports, birdwatching and tracking down ancient burial sites are all popular pastimes you can get up to in the local area. It's also a 15 minutes' walk from Loch Tay Highland Lodges, where guests are welcome to use the facilities. Cruachan Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a five-minute drive to the east of Killin, a scenic spot with a castle, pubs, a supermarket and waterside walks around the gorgeous Falls of Dochart.

What customers say

This campsite boasts a beautiful location near Loch Tay, with many praising the friendly staff and clean facilities. Visitors appreciated the quiet atmosphere, spacious pitches, and proximity to hiking routes. The Boathouse restaurant received positive mentions. However, some noted dated amenities, issues with pitch flatness, and confusion regarding check-in procedures at a neighbouring site. The path to the loch was described by some as muddy.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Quiet campsite with large pitches, short walk through the site to Loch Tay where you can wild swim or take a boat ride. Wooded areas to exercise the dogs, short drive to the village and areas to hike. Nice pub/restaurant on site.

Disliked Only 2 Toilets and showers per camping field which are in need of general maintenance/updating. Booking in slightly confusing as email states turn into Cruachan farm but can’t drive to the reception from here.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (five person)

Liked Friendly staff; efficient booking in procedure; having the choice of where to pitch our tent on two camping areas.

Disliked Reception area was on an adjacent site which was awkward to drive to and walkway to it was not the most convenient (especially in wet weather).

Non-electric grass tent pitch (five person)

Liked The sister site you could walk through to, and facilities by the Loch, but the campsite is in a different location.

Disliked The first camping field was waterlogged and not very flat; the top field had some flatter parts

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Pitch was fine and staff at reception were extremely friendly and helpful. We don’t have a long enough extension so they kindly let us move a pitch along so we could get plugged into power. Would recommend making sure you have a decent extension as if you are in pitches 4 and 5 you’re a good bit further away from the plug in points. Site was really quiet as well which was nice.

Disliked Shower facilities on the upper level where the caravan, small pods and gravel pitches are aren’t great. The cubicles unfortunately are quite small and there’s not really anywhere to put your stuff. The shower area has a curtain to stop water going everywhere but it’s not a big space at all and not the best shower I’ve had at a campsite. Also is there’s someone in showering next to you the water from their side ends up running right through all the cubicles so the floors completely soaked and whilst trying to get dried I was ending up with spray from their shower coming over the top of the cubicle. The showers etc were clean just not spacious at all.

Liked Arrived in a campervan, the reception staff were friendly. The piches were clean and spacious. The shower block and toilets were clean and nice hot water.
The boathouse restaurant was a great addition with stunning views and lovely staff.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Not a lot really. Okay for a base if you like to drive to other place's. Killin is nice to visit for an hour if it's not raining, the river falls are well worth a visit. Facilities are average.

Disliked Sat nav took us to the top of a mountain not the site, It's a tourist attraction? you have to pay for parking to look at the loch. Confusion about booking in at one site and staying at another. You cannot see the loch from the site and if you want a drink at the bar you have to treck allong a really muddy and slippy track to the next door site and the down a very very steep winding road at least 1/4 mile long. We put up with the muddy track and tried the steep road but gave up after about 150 yards when we could see how much further we would need to go. We could have got to the bottom but no way would we manage the climb back after a couple of drinks. You also need levelling chocks. Also had to be 6 foot six to to have a pee, the plumber must have been a very tall man.

Local attractions

Starting locally, Killin Castle (five minutes' drive) is definitely a landmark to explore. While here, wander down past the pretty waters at the Falls of Dochart (five minutes) and keep an eye out for wildlife. Killin Golf Club (also five minutes) is a well-liked course with nine scenic landscaped holes to try, while just a little further away at Ben Lawers Dam (10 minutes) you can get a close-up view of one of Scotland's highest Munros. After exploring Loch Tay and the local area, it's a short enough drive to Loch Tay (20 minutes), where plenty of watersports and hiking trails are on offer. The village of Aberfoyle (an hour away) is very popular with off-road cyclists who appreciate its miles of well-maintained gravel tracks, and there's also a forest park with Go Ape, a visitor centre and a hide where beady-eyed visitors may spot red squirrels among the trees. For more heritage sights, try Castle Menzies (30 minutes), an imposing 16th-century clan seat, or Stirling Castle (an hour and 10 minutes), one of the most important and impressive historic buildings in Scotland.
