  • Rural holiday park five minutes' drive from a pub and café in Fintry
  • Scenic Campsie Hills views; half an hour's drive from Loch Lomond
  • Heated covered swimming pool, adventure playground, bar and bistro
The folk at Campsie Glen Holiday Park presumably didn't have to think too hard when it came to naming their Stirlingshire site – the gorgeous views out over the Campsie Hills were inspiration enough for this friendly rural spot five minutes' drive from Fintry. Stays here can be as action-packed or as relaxed as you wish: the surrounding area has heaps to fill your days with, including castles, whisky distilleries and scenic seaplane flights. Golf courses, horse riding, fishing, watersports and other outdoorsy pursuits are all within a half-hour drive, as are scenic rambles or bike rides in the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. If you’re leaning more towards the relaxed end of proceedings, you’ll probably want to factor in a leisurely hour or few in the heated, covered swimming pool and hot tub (open through high season only). Busy days or chilled ones can both be followed by a bit of lounging in the site’s lounge bar and bistro (opening times vary according to season), tapping your toes to live music if you're in on a summer Saturday night… Tiddlers who require a bit more activity can be entertained at the kids’ pool, games room and adventure playground. And if you've brought your hound along on hols, there's space for them too: a dog walk/exercise area on site as well as plenty of lovely walks by (or quite possibly in, if they're keen splashers) Endrick Water river, which runs just past the park.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: . Place was very clean. Staff was very polite

Disliked: Arrived on the Friday. Music playing late at night was wakened with noise. Someone at 4.30 in the morning was out swearing 🤬 because the electricity was off.our electricity kept on going on and off during the night our van was freezing cold without the use of fan heater. Same happened on Saturday morning and after 19.00. Unfortunately will not come back to site

Camping pod (six person)

Liked: The pod, pool and location

Disliked: Tiny fridge in 6 person pod. Type 1 diabetic had to store medicine in fridge. Alot of food spoiled as unable to refrigerate. Was told we weren't allowed to fish as season doesn't start til July which is inaccurate its the 15th March. Headed to restaurant for my sons 14th birthday! To be told they couldn't accommodate us all night no advisory on pre booking from anyone almost felt shooed out the pub. Very disheartening for my son. Had to travel outwith property to eat our dinner with a 14,11 and 2 year old, not the relaxing evening I had in mind. No available cold drinking water in food prep area only hot working! Decided to try and cheer the kids up and head to games room only a few machines working, we needed change so went back to bar to be told that they are cashless!!! What on earth is going on? So yes wasn't as relaxing and enjoyable as I had hoped.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Kids loved the pool. Bar was reasonably priced. Toilets & Showers were spotless.

Disliked: Multiple speed bumps on approach to site, damaged my jockey wheel as 2 of them were too close together.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely clean toilet facilities, decent park for the children. When we had an issue with flooding on our pitch the issue was resolved promptly.

Disliked: Not enough reliable info regarding when facilities were open e.g. pool, bar/restaurant, games room. Website said one thing, receptionist said another, barman said something else and the reality was different again so kids were a bit disappointed. Would be a fab wee site with everything open.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we are glad you enjoyed your stay at Campsie Glen. We appreciate your feedback and we hope to see you again when all our facilities are open.

Local attractions

As already mentioned, there's a whole heap of antics to keep you busy in these scenic surrounds, but before you scurry off excitedly it’s worth having a chat with the reception team, as they’ve negotiated a fair number of handy discounts at local attractions. Those who’ve come to this part to Scotland to stretch their muscles can tee off at a golf course 15 minutes’ drive away, saddle up for horse rides (25 minutes), clamber along the treetop courses at Go Ape Aberfoyle (half an hour) or sign up for canyoning and quad biking (25 minutes). Gentle canoe paddles on Loch Lomond can be had from Balloch (40 minutes), also home to the Sea Life Loch Lomond Aquarium and the departure point for scenery-snapping seaplane flights. Sticking to more leisurely pursuits? Slope off to Stirling (25 minutes) to see the castle, Wallace monument and aptly-named Old Bridge, which is said to have survived since the 15th century. Hanging out with the birds of prey at Strathblane Falconry (half an hour) is another fab choice, as of course is a dram or two at Glengoyne Distillery (25 minutes).
