  • Berwickshire holiday park on the River Tweed's banks near Coldstream
  • Five minutes’ drive to the Hirsel Estate and 40 minutes to Holy Island
  • Dog-friendly site; pubs five minutes’ drive
Can’t decide whether to holiday in Scotland or England? Coldstream Holiday Park is situated just above the banks of the River Tweed, which forms a natural boundary between the two countries. No need to make a decision, then, as you can visit both countries in one day. Near the historic town of Coldstream, the site has views all the way to the Cheviot Hills and you can see the Eildon Hills on clear days. It is a handy, dog-centric base for walking and cycling in Berwickshire countryside, with a golf course within five minutes’ drive, and fishing (in season) on the Tweed. Whether you’re heading further north into the Scottish Highlands, or using the holiday park as your main base, this well-equipped and family-friendly site offers facilities including an architect-designed heated amenities block with toilets and showers. There’s a launderette and washing-up area too so you can keep everybody and everything clean and shiny. Source bits and bobs for meals and barbecues in Coldstream convenience stores, or visit the town’s pubs, restaurants and takeaways if your idea of being on holiday does not involve any cooking at all.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice location, amenities near by.

Disliked Tent pitch located next to the toilet entrance meaning everybody squeezed through the gap of your tent and car to get to the toilet.

This shouldn’t be a tent pitch and should be segregated rather than a free for all.

Kids running around the tent and over the guy ropes.

Swarmed by wasps meaning no peace and getting stung not once, but twice. Commotion from the toilets all of the time. Hand dryers on the go constantly and people getting locked in the toilets.

Tent lit up at night because of the lights from the toilets on all of the time.

Cleanliness of the toilets/showers could do with some improvement. The showers on the outside have no drainage meaning your standing in a bath trying to have a shower as the water does not flow or drain and overflows the shower basin into the floor.

Terms and conditions state that dogs are required to be kept on a lead at all times however some people did not abide by this meaning random dogs were letting themselves into your tent.

We had a dog ourselves so did not appreciate other dogs encroaching where we are trying to relax.

Bins were an eyesore from the minute we got on site, overflowing, rubbish on the floor and surrounded by wasps.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback regarding your recent stay. We sincerely apologize that your experience did not meet your expectations.

We understand your concerns about pitch C1 and appreciate your honest feedback. It has historically been one of our most requested pitches due to its close proximity to the facilities, but we understand it may not be suitable for everyone. We want to assure you that guests are always welcome to request a pitch further away at the time of booking, and we're always happy to accommodate such requests when possible.

We're very sorry to hear about the issues you faced with wasps and other guests' dogs. We do have a strict policy that all dogs must be kept on a lead, and we will be reinforcing this with our staff to ensure all guests are reminded of the rules. We also understand your frustrations with the overflowing bins. We've recently upgraded our rubbish collection to twice a week to prevent this from happening in the future.

We will also be investigating the issues you've highlighted with the toilets and showers, particularly the drainage problems and the constant noise from the hand dryers. This is certainly not the standard we aim for, and we will address these points with our maintenance team immediately.

We hope you will consider staying with us again in the future, and we'd be happy to assist you in booking a more secluded pitch.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice area and large pitches. Onsite EV charging.

Disliked No pub or shop on site and facilities could be bigger for amount of people on site.

Some campers were a little loud until late, so difficult if kids were in bed.

Camping pod

Liked Lovely clean pod

Disliked Lots of cobwebs around the door and very, very hot inside

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your feedback! We're delighted to hear that you found the pod lovely and clean.

We apologize for the presence of cobwebs around the door. While our team cleans all spiderwebs after each departure, new ones can appear very quickly, especially in the summer. We also appreciate you mentioning the heat inside the pod. Due to the material the pods are made of, they can get quite hot during the summer months, and we are looking into additional ways to help manage this.

We hope to welcome you back again soon.

Lovely sight very clean and friendly. Nice play ground for the kiss.

Camping pod

Liked I like the glamping pod that we stayed in. It was clean on arrival. Surprisingly spacious. Enough room for the 4 of us.

Disliked The toilet block wasn't the cleanest and there are not a lot of showers available. The separate shower on the side was better power wise, but flooded which made getting dressed tricky at times.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great pitch size.
Really clean toilets and showers.
Massive play area for kids or adults.
Brilliant location.
Beautiful woodland walk with horses and a river next to site.
Amazing pub within walking distance called The Newcastle Arms. Great food , great beer garden.

Disliked A bit pricey for dogs. Should be a set price not charged each night.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: It sounds like you had a fantastic stay overall! It's great to hear that you enjoyed the spacious pitches, the spotlessly clean facilities, and the play area. A local pub like The Newcastle Arms with good food and a beer garden is always a win!

It's a shame that the dog pricing put a slight dampener on things, but we hope your doggy enjoyed their stay with us!

Thanks for sharing your feedback – it's really helpful for other campers.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked We had an end pitch so ended up having extra space on the opposite side of the caravan which worked well for us for playing games, the site was nice and quiet plenty of space for the little one to play and it was all kept nice and tidy

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: That sounds like a fantastic spot! Having that extra space on your pitch for games is a real bonus, especially when you have a little one. It's great to hear the site was quiet and well-maintained too – those things really make a difference for a relaxing trip.

Local attractions

Coldstream (five minutes’ drive) has much to offer in the way of history. This border town changed hands between the English and Scots many times over the centuries and is now home to informative military history displays in Coldstream Museum. It’s also home to the Hirsel Estate, with lakeside dog walks, lovely gardens to wander around, and craft shops where you can pick up some souvenir tartan. A little further afield you’ll come across a series of austere ruined castles, including Twizel (10 minutes), Norham and Etal (both 20 minutes), all once responsible for keeping English bandits out of Scotland. The romantic and remote remains of Dryburgh Abbey (half an hour) are also worth a visit – especially at dusk when they have a haunting beauty. On the English side of the border, drive across the causeway to Holy Island (40 minutes, check tide times) to see art deco Lindisfarne Castle (45 minutes), or head to Bamburgh (40 minutes) to spend the day on its extensive sandy beach. At Alnwick Castle (50 minutes), kids can explore the poison gardens, spot Harry Potter film locations and take broomstick-riding lessons.
