  • Perthshire holiday park by the West Highland Way near Crianlarich
  • A 40-minute drive to Inveraray Castle, and 20 minutes to Glencoe
  • On-site basics store; pub, cafés and souvenir shop five minutes’ walk
Whether you’re a hiker or travelling on four wheels, Tyndrum Holiday Park is a more-than-handy base near Crianlarich in Perthshire. Close to the West Highland Way walking route between Fort William and Milngavie, it’s also just off the A82 for speedy car journeys to Oban (55 minutes’ drive) and the ferry to Mull. If you’re using public transport, there are easy bus links and two railway stations at Tyndrum too. Kids on holiday with you? Keep them entertained at the on-site play park and with loads of family-friendly walks nearby, including the sculptures and fairy houses on the Gruffalo Trail (five minutes’ walk) just across the road. Dogs are welcome too, and it’s certainly no hardship to take them for walkies in the spectacular Highland scenery that surrounds the park. Facilities-wise, the site has a shower block, washing-up area and launderette (the latter particularly useful for walkers who've got a bit muddy on the local trails), as well as a basic on-site shop at reception. A couple of mini-markets are in Tyndrum village, as well as cafés and a pub serving meals if cooking is not part of your holiday agenda. And don’t forget to have a wander around the famous Green Welly Stop (five minutes' drive away), where you can buy pretty much anything from tartan scarves to haggis.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Convenient location for the start of the Devil o' the Highlands footrace. Friendly welcome, lovely setting, and all necessary facilities. A great base for walking in the area. My pitch backed into the river, which was particularly nice. The pitches are well spaced out.

Disliked: This is a very first world problem, but my only negative was that despite a warning of very hot water, the washing-up station only provided a trickle of lukewarm water. By contrast, the water flow to the washbasins in the female toilets was so fierce that it splashed out!

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Pretty scenic location. West Highland Way right behind you. Superb shower pressure. Definitely best to get up early. Wide range of pitches, pods, etc.

Disliked: The site is too congested for the likes of us, who just want to park up and generally be left alone. Plus we were put on pitch 68, which is right next to kids play park. This means they are constantly running past your area!! I did consider asking to change pitches, but since I'd been told they were already full to capacity, there didn't seem much point
Also-
1) No recycling facilities
2) WiFi quite slow(but at least there was some)
3) Road noise bearable, but helicopters seem to use this place as flightpath. Was in toilet block at time. Sounded like 'Red Dawn'!!!
4) Quiet time is at 10pm. But this didn't stop some fish wife behind us, constantly cackling round her bbq till the wee hours!!

We quickly established a plan of action. Get up crack of dawn, use wash facilities, then scarper and don't come back till late evening. But if you are forced to do anything rather than stay at your campsite, it kinda defeats the object.
My advice...if you have a family, it's great. But if you're a couple who want some quiet time, get one of the hot tub pods on the camp perimeter, or just don't bother

Liked: The pitch was lovely & well spaced in a beautiful setting

Disliked: I showered at 6am expecting a hit shower. It wasn’t even warm & again late evening and even colder. Disappointing shower block it wasn’t very clean either. I might as well have wild camped and got washed in the stream.

Eigg Hiker camping pod (ensuite, large)

Liked: A very warm welcome, attractive pod well equipped as advertised. Pleasant site, quiet at night. All set in a beautiful site with lovely walks to explore with our collie dog. Memories of time spent in Tyndrum and Crianlarich 60 years ago. We tried to visit the old Lady Glenorchy's church, now a cafe, but it was closed. Still, the walk was good with a new cycle route easy to walk, a wee bit harder coming back on the West Highland Way. Staff helpful throughout especially by providing two chairs with arms which helped us to sit outside. The weather was great and the views all around spectacular. The old village of Tyndrum is a good example of the old and the new, somehow retaining a village atmosphere bridging one of the busiest roads in Britain. We had a lovely four day break and if we live long enough, we'll come back and enjoy again.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Location and cleanliness and friendly staff.
Very disappointing I can’t say more because I loved the site. But the amenities let it down.

Disliked: Toilets and showers. Sinks hot water button difficult to work. Water not hot enough. Sinks are used for handwashing after the toilet do not nice to use for face or teeth brushing. Also no privacy. Gents was equally basic. No hot water to shave and the 3 sinks were for basic handwashing. Sinks within a cubical are much nicer and lots of other sites have these. The ones at the site were basically public toilets either a couple of showers.

The tumbling Falls of Dochart at Killin (25 minutes’ drive), the mighty castle at Inveraray (40 minutes) and the photogenic runs of Kilchurn Castle (20 minutes) overlooking Loch Awe all make fascinating day trips. Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park (10 minutes) has all sorts of watersports on the loch, or you can hike, ride or cycle across seemingly endless hills and glens. If you’re into bagging some serious hills, the mighty munros of Ben Lui and Ben More are both within 20 minutes’ drive.
