  • E-bike charging; fishing in the loch; small shop 10 minutes’ drive
After nightly entertainment, bars and restaurants? Kilvrecht Caravan and Camp Site in Perthshire is not right for you. It’s all about fresh air, wildlife and peace – so if you want to hear birds singing in a woodland setting, Kilvrecht is absolutely right for you. You are welcome to pitch anywhere in the grass fields; they can get soggy after rainfall, so check any prospective pitches on foot first. The warden is happy to help you find the best spot for your particular set up. There are separate toilet blocks, washing-up facilities and drinking water taps around the site, but no formal shower facilities – however, there are private wet-room cubicles with sinks and hot water for washing. Pets are welcome, but must be kept under close control at all times. Exercise them on the shores of stunning Loch Rannoch (there’s direct access from the pitches), which you can hike or cycle (the site has e-bike charging stands) around on quiet roads to enjoy the spectacular Highland scenery. You can also fish the loch; buy permits at the local village shop in Kinloch Rannoch (10 minutes’ drive). Refreshments and a small store are also available in Kinloch Rannoch. Both the towns of Pitlochry (50 minutes) and Aberfeldy (40 minutes) have a range of shops and eateries.

What customers say

This peaceful, spacious campsite is set in a beautiful woodland location, offering direct access to forest walks. Reviewers praised the friendly and helpful warden, Ellie, and the well-maintained basic facilities, including clean toilets and washing-up areas with plenty of hot water. While some noted the lack of showers, the site's tranquil atmosphere and natural setting were highly appreciated. The remote location, cash-only payment policy, and midges were mentioned as potential drawbacks.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Plenty of room, nice flat pitches and picnic tables with BBQ plates fitted. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of woodland walks right on the doorstep. Very quiet and peaceful unless to pitch near the river.

Disliked Lack of shower facilities is a bit if a let down but there are facilities to have a good wash.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Peaceful, quiet, on the edge of a great forest for walks, and access to a quiet road for cycling. Ellie, the warden, was lovely. Great for dogs. There is 4G but no WiFi which was enough for us.

Disliked Although we have a campervan with a shower unit, it would have been good to have hot water in the bathrooms for washing. There are no showers but the units are designed to stand in like a shower for a wash from taps. However the water was too cold for that!

Non-electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Spacious pitches
Fantastic woodland setting
Good by basic facilities
Surprisingly good WiFi

Disliked Good and bad depending on what you are looking for - remote location (3.5 miles to the nearest town of Kinloch Rannoch).
Cash only - Beware if you book through Pitchup and only pay a deposit you will need cash to pay the balance. This isn't clear at the time of booking and Cash Machines are difficult to find in the area.
Slightly pricey for the basic facilities.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Visited in Autumn when only two other motorhomes present. Peaceful site other level pitches set in a clearing in the forest. Direct access to forest trails. Well maintained facilities. Attended daily by helpful warden. Cheaper than most sites

Disliked Cash only as no WiFi and poor phone signal.

Local attractions

When you’re super-keen to get out into bracing Perthshire air, you’ll be pleased to access Rannoch Forest Trail directly from the pitches. It leads down to the loch through stands of ancient Scots pine, and is home to red squirrels and pine martens, so keep your eyes peeled as you hike. For a slightly tougher challenge, you can bag a Munro (a Scottish mountain over 3,000 feet) by summiting Schiehallion from the Braes of Foss car park (25 minutes’ drive); your reward is superb views down Loch Rannoch. If the kids are with you, try the short Carie Trail (also accessed from the site) running along the side of Carie Burn, take a stroll around the shores of Loch Tummel in Tay Forest Park (20 minutes’ drive), or walk to the fabled viewpoint at Queen’s View Visitor Centre (40 minutes). To learn about Perthshire heritage, tour The Scottish Crannog Centre (40 minutes) on Loch Tay; it has a replica Iron Age dwelling with a thatched roof and several other circular crannogs where you can watch traditional Iron Age crafts and read about life in prehistoric Scotland.
