Non-electric grass tent pitch (small)

Liked Very friendly couple that run the site. Lots of thought put into the facilities, the bathrooms are clean and the showers are hot! Beautiful scenery all around and with great access to local hikes which my partner and I went for. Facilities to clean cookware and laundry machines always handy.

The deer were a joy to watch during breakfast.

The small shop covered all the basics including a small gas cylinder I needed for my stove. The cafe was very welcome, to get fresh coffee (not instant) and some very good cake was fantastic after a day on the hills.

A highly recommended site, we had a tent. It did rain heavily over night but we never had any issues with run off or risk of flooding. To be honest despite the rain and being near the river the midges we not that bad.

Disliked Othing comes to mind, a very well run site

Liked Location, peaceful

Disliked Failure to pick up grass after mowing

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a nice review. We cut the grass every week but, unfortunately, someone had an awning on pitch 9 last time we cut it so - when it was cut this time - there was more grass than normal. We’re so sorry if this was an inconvenience for you and we hope it won’t put you off coming again soon.

Liked Everything, the campsite was clean, in a great location with fabulous views, the owners made us feel welcome and were happy to share information with us, we climbed Schiallion and also spent time sitting at the site enjoying the relaxed atmosphere , loved the deer field and the wee burn that ran through the site.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Beautiful scenery surrounded the site and deer could be seen on neighbouring land.

Disliked Facilities were basic but clean and expensive for our needs in a small campervan.
Sensor controlled lights in washroom block time out after a minute so I was plunged into darkness when brushing my teeth.
Unfortunately our arrival was delayed and the site owner initially was unwilling to let us stay despite us having paid and being in our camper and not requiring anything from them but reluctantly let us stay after going into great detail about the long hours he and his wife work. This put a bit of a dampener on our stay to say the least!

From the manager: Thank you for giving us the opportunity to provide some feedback.

A poor review was expected from you since you caused a negative experience with us by turning up late and then proceeding to drive in and go on a pitch without knowing if it was even occupied (and the occupants having gone out for the evening) or reserved. You arrived at 9pm and didn’t even call ahead to tell us you would be late.

We accept arrivals up to 8pm and this is made clear in our terms when you book, as well as signage in the window at reception. We are a small, independent site and there are just the two of us. We work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for the whole season - including running the cafe all day. To prevent burn-out, we just ask that people arrive by 8pm so that we get a little private time each day in the evening.

If you had planned ahead and arrived in the normal way, we would have extended our usual friendly welcome. Almost every site has a cut-off for arrivals and we strongly recommend you familiarise yourself with this before you book to save any negative experiences in the future..

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked The natural surroundings, the staff, the cleanliness of the facilities, the flatness of the pitches. Good electric hookup, quiet campsite.

Disliked Grass pitches next to motorhome pitches are stony so difficult to get pegs in to set up an awning, pitches adjacent to trees barely see the sun all day and lots of midges in that part of the campsite.

From the manager: Thank you for such a lovely review. It was great to have you with us and we hope we’ll see you again soon.

We are so sorry, you didn’t have an awning on your booking so we allocated you on our only pitch that doesn’t take awnings due to the hard ground! We hope you’ll come back and see us and perhaps try out a different pitch.

Thanks again.

From the manager: Thank you for taking time to leave your feedback.

We are so sorry for your well below par experience with us and we totally understand your comments. Please let us explain a bit of detail about our situation whilst you were with us.

Sadly, we were both very ill for the first two weeks of August. The timing couldn’t have been worse for us. Peak season and two very important weekends for us - Aberfeldy Triathlon and then Aberfeldy Show and Highland Games. For the well-being of our guests (as well as our own) we decided to honour all current bookings and close to any new ones. Luckily - our parents were able to come and help us out checking people in and cleaning the facilities for us. Sadly, as they are in their 80s, running the cafe etc is a step too far for them.

We are pleased to say we are well on the mend now and have been fully back open since Monday 19 August. We’re so sorry you didn’t experience anything like what we call “normal” for us and we hope you will reconsider coming again and giving us another chance.

Take care.

Local attractions

No doubt the scenery around the site will have you itching to get out for a walk – and that's easily done, whether you want to take a stroll around the neighbouring deer park or scramble up the slopes of Schiehallion (accessed via the trails around Dun Coillich). A little further afield, you can clamber up Ben Lawers (half an hour’s drive), the tenth-highest of the munros, or head into Tay Forest Park for places like Queen's View (20 minutes), with a stunning vista across Loch Tummel. Down at Kenmore (15 minutes), on the banks of Loch Tay, you can take a scenic boat trip or hire your own boat to explore Perthshire’s largest loch at your leisure. Activity centres in Aberfeldy (15 minutes) can sort you with more adventurous pursuits like rafting and canyoning if you prefer. Got something gentler in mind? Take yourselves instead to 16th-century Castle Menzies (10 minutes), elegant Blair Castle & Gardens (35 minutes) or the former crowning place of Scottish kings at Scone Palace (an hour). Cluny House Gardens (15 minutes) is also lovely for a stroll – or you can sample a few sips of the good stuff at Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery (15 minutes).
