  • Small rural Perthshire site a mile from the village of Errol
  • Between Perth (20 minutes' drive) and Dundee (25 minutes)
  • Adults-only site with caravan pitches for CAMC members only
Ever heard of the Carse of Gowrie? It’s the name given to a low-lying area of farmland close to the Firth of Tay between Perth and Dundee. It’s particularly well known as fertile ground for growing fruit – but it also makes a lovely area for a peaceful rural break. Like the sound of that? Set off to the small and quiet Fernlea Certified Location, surrounded by open farmland about a mile from the village of Errol. As it’s a Caravan and Motorhome Club location, please note that caravan pitches are open to CAMC members only (although on-site accommodation is open to non-members). This is also an adults-only site, but dogs (of all ages) are welcome. This is a great choice for a location that mixes up peace and convenience. You’ll have lovely rural views from all around the site and access to a network of local footpaths for easy rural rambles – but it's also simple to get to the village to use its two shops, butcher, pub and lovely café. Perth (20 minutes’ drive) and Dundee (25 minutes) are close by for city days, and the site is also just next to the national cycle route that runs between the two.

What customers say

Fernlea Campsite & Pod offers a warm welcome and a peaceful, well-kept environment. Guests appreciate the friendly hosts and the site's layout, which is suitable for motorhomes. Facilities are described as spotless by some, though others mention a basic chemical waste disposal. While the site is praised for its quiet location and reasonable access to nearby towns, a tight entrance and pitch space were noted by one reviewer. Fruit flies were present at certain times.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (members only)

Liked We stayed for one night on New Year’s Eve at Fernlea Campsite & Pod, just along the road from Errol on the beautiful Firth of Tay, and could not have asked for a warmer welcome. On arrival, we found the owner and his daughter busy preparing everything for the pod guests, which immediately set the tone for our stay.

Nothing was too much trouble. They were friendly, attentive, and genuinely pleased to have us there, creating a sense of hospitality that is sadly rare and deeply appreciated. The site itself is peaceful, well kept, and feels carefully cared for, with a calm, tucked away atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and switch off.

It was the perfect place to spend New Year’s Eve: quiet, welcoming, and full of simple charm. We left feeling rested and grateful, and we would not hesitate to return or recommend Fernlea to others looking for a comfortable, friendly, and thoughtfully run campsite.

A small place with a big heart.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, well set out, welcoming and everything needed.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (members only)

Liked Quiet location, level pitches and very friendly host. Only a mile walk into Errol where there were two well equipped shops and a small welcoming pub. Worth noting that the pub only does food on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and serve only for a limited time.
Lovely bike ride into Dundee along the cycle route.

Disliked Not a dislike as such, but it is next to a grain store so need to be aware of grain trucks coming and going.
The chemical waste disposal is very basic.

Local attractions

Part of the joy of staying here simply comes from slowly meandering along local pathways on foot or by bike while taking in the smashing scenery. Cyclists may like to follow the country roads up into the Sidlaw Hills while walkers and birdwatchers head to the path through the reed beds alongside the River Tay. Poking around in the antiques centres in Rait (five minutes' drive) and Abernyte (10 minutes) is another nice way to have a relaxed outing, as is a wander through Glendoick Gardens (10 minutes). Across the Tay, you could explore the ruins of Lindores Abbey (half an hour) before visiting its distillery. For city life, pay a visit to Perth (20 minutes) for Scone Palace, The Black Watch Castle & Museum and a thriving cultural scene centred around its art gallery, concert hall and various museums. Dundee (25 minutes) is also well worth a trip – the V&A Dundee and Dundee Science Centre are highlights but the city has plenty of arts and heritage attractions to choose from.
