  • Family-centric Perthshire holiday park at the gateway to the Highlands
  • Located in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park
  • Direct access to the scenic Rob Roy Way and The Golden Larches Café
If you’re up for steeping yourself in the myths and legends surrounding notorious Scottish outlaw Rob Roy, you can do exactly that from Perthshire’s Balquhidder Braes Holiday Park. The lochs, rivers and glens around Balquhidder are closely associated with the MacGregor clan and the final resting place of the big man himself is in Balquhidder Kirkyard, five minutes’ drive away at the head of Loch Voil. There are many other reasons for staying at this family-run holiday park too, of course. It sits within the stunning Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, surrounded by an abundance of wildlife, with red squirrels, deer, otters and osprey regularly spotted both on and around the site. Facilities include separate shower blocks for men and women, a washing-up area and Elsan disposal area. Pets are welcome, and a forest walk can be directly accessed from the pitches for stretching of legs both human and canine. Despite its peaceful location among trees, the park is easy to get to, straight off the A84 between Strathyre and Lochearnhead (both five minutes’ drive). The cute village of Killin (15 minutes) on the shores of Loch Tay has shops plus a smattering of pubs and eateries, but if you’d rather stick closer to base camp, The Golden Larches Café is right across the road from the pitches.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked Great facilities, straight forward check-in, lovely location. Ridiculously good value for money!

Disliked The picnic benches were both down the middle of two pitches which was okay, but both tables were being used by the time we got back with food so could be a good idea to have them more clearly assigned to each pitch but honestly not too much of an issue at all.

Green electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Check In vorab und dadurch einfache Anreise
Viele Infos vorab
Saubere Toiletten
Generell alles vorhanden was man braucht

Green electric gravel touring pitch

Liked The quietness and friendliness and immediate communication upon a request I had which was honoured , facilities were clean but a little dated

Disliked Only two showers in each of the ladies and Men's facilities, toilets too low, I am disabled and struggled , no disbaled facilities and it would be handy having a map of the Touring park and could see how far from the facilities you are , as it is far if on the farthest site .,only reason would not return is because of no facilities for disabled

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Everything almost

Disliked Internet was patchy and kept kicking us off every 30mins or so and cost us £4 per device from you but on balquhidder website it says £2 per stay on one bit and free on another bit. Obviously internet is not a must but when it’s purchased and provided it should be of decent quality of service atleast.

Local attractions

As well as being burial place of Rob Roy, Balquhidder is known for its scenic walking and cycling routes, with the Rob Roy Way and Old Glen Ogle Railway Line (the latter leads to ponds where you may spot otters) accessed from the park as well as National Cycle Network Route 7. If you’d care to bag a Munro (mountain over 3,000 feet), Stob Binnein and Ben More are about 20 minutes’ drive away. Sporting types can fish on the lochs and rivers, and pick up fishing tackle and permits in Callander (also 20 minutes’ drive). You can go pony trekking through the gorgeous Perthshire countryside from Castle Rednock Trekking Centre (half an hour), where there are also Segway trails for non-equestrians. Golf-wise, you have a choice of five local courses; the National Park Golf Pass offers visitors to the national park the opportunity to play on all of them. If you’d like to spend a day on the water, you can hire paddleboards, kayaks and wakeboards from Loch Earn Wakeschool (five minutes). If you happen to hit a rainy day, simply decamp to the indoor pool at the McLaren Leisure Centre in Callander, where there’s also a sauna and steam room.
