  • Dog-friendly site within walking distance of the river Spey
  • Within half an hour’s walk of Aberlour and the Speyside Way
  • Surrounded by hiking and biking trails, with shops and eateries nearby
Whisky connoisseurs, hiking aficionados and all those touching down in Speyside for an active or relaxing break will be very well-based at Speyside Gardens Caravan Park. For starters, the dog-friendly site is in prime Speyside whisky country on the Malt Whisky Trail, with whisky distilleries within walking distance. For seconds, half an hour’s walk away is the Speyside Way, a 66-mile walking or cycling path along the river Spey. That also means that the river Spey is within walking distance of the site, and with that comes easy-going mornings spent salmon fishing, kayaking or wild swimming, before dining on something tasty (with a side of whisky perhaps) in the local villages. Aberlour, 25 minutes’ walk away, is known as the home of Walker’s Shortbread and has a whisky distillery. Craigellachie, half an hour’s walk away, has a further two whisky distilleries (whiskies are sold in the village shop there too, of course). This village has access to the Speyside Way and the gorgeous Craigellachie Bridge. Pubs, restaurants, a butchers and local shops are spread out across the two spots. With six acres to its name, Speyside Gardens Caravan Park really is a scenic spot. It’s within a Victorian walled garden home to a cluster of local wildlife, including a number of red squirrel residents. There are hiking, mountain biking and road biking routes all around the site too, which should be very good news for the active types.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: The campsite is very peaceful. It was lovely to be surrounded by nature. The facilities were clean and looked like new. The Staff were very friendly. Very close to the Speyside way and walkable to several distilleries and local pubs.

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked: Location site and amenities. Site changed our pitch for us as the allocated one had no grass.

Disliked: Minor issue, the grass pitch we were initially allocated was so worn that there was just earth and tree needles. It was explained that pitch up are allocated only a portion of pitches therefore maybe certain ones are being used more than others and getting excessively worn. Something worth considering. We were allocated a pitch close by do no issue in the end.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Lovely, peaceful site and nice size pitch with good facilities. Lady at the check-in desk was very friendly and welcoming.

Disliked: The toilet and shower block clean but in need of some updating. The individual shower rooms need some kind of shelf area to put your things on as anything that can't be hung up had to be put on the wet floor. Family shower rooms were good.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: Clean and organized campsite with plenty of facilities. Very clean toilets and shower areas and big family facilities. Very friendly staff who are very helpful. The shop is always fully stocked. Liked the shower pressure. Good area for a whisky distilleries

Disliked: I think £9 to do a load of washing is a bit steep however they are industrial-sized. Shower timing was a bit short as it only lasted 30 seconds

3 bedroom static caravan

Liked: The static 3 bedroom caravan we stayed in was excellent- clean and well appointed with oven, hob, microwave, TV and heating. The location is great, feels quite secluded but only 10 mins from town with a bakery, butchers, takeaway and Co-op for larger shop and also the Walkers shortbread factory shop where you can get bags of “rejects” cheap! The site is very well kept with a woodland feel, small onsite shop for basics in reception area and also excellent fresh coffee made by the friendly hosts. An excellent base for trips out in the car to countless attractions from castles to distilleries to nature reserves and activity centres and walking trails.

Disliked: Not much! Slightly more variety in the on site shop maybe? With the town so near though it’s hardly a deal breaker, and the fresh coffee makes up for it anyway!

Local attractions

A little walking can get you to some real-good views from Speyside Gardens Caravan Park, whether it’s the river Spey or the Linn Falls (45 minutes’ walk), a wild swimming spot. Dufftown (10 minutes or an hour and half’s walk) is a little longer of a trek, or a short drive. Mad about its malt whisky, the village has plenty of distilleries and a whisky museum. In Elgin (25 minutes), there are more Scottish distilleries, of course. Save some time among your distillery tours to check out Elgin Cathedral and one of Britain’s oldest museums, which has been standing since 1843. While the whisky distilleries, walking trails and river Spey give Speyside visitors plenty to rave about, the Scottish coast is also within driving distance. There are two sandy beaches in Lossiemouth (35 minutes), along with the Moray Golf Club old course over the sea (a bucket-list item for many keen golfers).
