What customers say

Thurston Manor offers a pleasant stay with generally clean and well-maintained facilities, including spacious pitches and helpful staff. Visitors appreciate the good value, convenient location near the A1 and Dunbar, and the range of on-site amenities such as the pool and restaurant. While many highlight the cleanliness and friendly atmosphere, some mention dated aspects and occasional noise, particularly during busy periods. Despite minor drawbacks, many guests highly recommend the site and plan to return.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Nice site , good location.

Disliked No wifi in tourers area , nowadays that's a mistake, really disappointed that there's no WiFi, actually thought it was a joke / mistake.

Kids running around till after 10 o'clock on bikes , hollaring and generally making a racket.
Then at 7am , people preparing to leave that day , howling at each other , and generally having no consideration for others at all.

Wouldn't stay again , its obvious tourers aren't a big part or consideration there. So people can more or less do as they want. Which means they have no consideration for others.
Shame because its a nice site in great location.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (super)

Liked Easy access from A1 made it a good location for a stop over when heading north or south. Check-in was straight forward even though we arrived after Reception had closed. There was a well stocked shop on site.

Disliked The pirch was fine for the overnight stop over we had booked. I would not have wanted to spend any longer on it. The toilet /shower / amenaties block was very much in need of updating.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Easy access . Pitches were fairly level. Had a swimming pool but fairly small for the amount of people there . Very big park for children to play on. Had a large club house area food was nothing fancy but ok for a quick meal . Large bar and children’s entertainment that we didn’t see but the other kids seemed excited . A little bit run down looking. Good shop there with plenty of stock little pricey but good for anything you run out of.

Disliked Not enough toilets for the size of the site.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (super)

Liked Access to the site from the A1

Disliked The super pitch, all the other pitches looked nice. Pitch #12 is a horrible gravel plot with weeds everywhere, plastic gravel retainer is lifting. The shower block didn't look like it had been cleaned, one tissue on the sink was still there the next day. Definitely not worth the extra money, had to cover the open drain with a slab because of the smell of the open drain. No wifi available.

From the manager: Thanks for sharing your honest feedback—it’s incredibly valuable.
We're glad the site was easy to access from the A1, but we're really sorry to hear about your experience with pitch #12 and the shower block. That’s not the standard we aim for, and your comments about the gravel, cleanliness, and drainage issues are concerning. Lack of Wi-Fi can also be frustrating, especially when you're expecting it.
We’ll be sure to pass this on to the team so improvements can be made. Your insight helps us do better.

Local attractions

You won’t find yourselves thirsting for action at Thurston Manor; there are lots of inspiring places to visit in East Lothian, Berwickshire and beyond. Peer at the puffins and gawk at the gannets at the Scottish Seabird Centre - you can zoom in on the nesting colonies on the islands (including Bass Rock, home to a gobsmacking 150,000 gannets) using the Centre’s interactive live cameras, or zoom off on a boat trip to see them in the flesh/feathers, along with grey seals and dolphins if you’re lucky. For more fresh air fun, there are clifftop walks, castle ruins, picnicking and pony trekking across the grassland, woods and salt marshes at John Muir Country Park in nearby Dunbar. Or you could go for a clamber around Tantallon Castle, a majestic fourteenth century stronghold in a photogenic location atop the cliffs overlooking the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock. Not to mention the magnificent golf courses, fishing, horse riding, yachting and water sports in the surrounding area. Whisky lovers will definitely want to make a pilgrimage to the nearby Glenkinchie Distillery, which has an excellent visitor centre and guided tours as well as tastings (and a discount in the shop is included in the very reasonable entrance fee). Last but not least, the brilliant and bonny city of Edinburgh is only 25 miles away.....
