  • Well-maintained site in quiet Lanarkshire countryside near Cumbernauld
  • A 20-minute drive to Glasgow’s attractions; half an hour to Stirling
  • Dog-friendly site with play park, woodland walks and fairy wood
A rural site surrounded by fields in the Lanarkshire countryside, Eden Leisure Village is a smashing choice if you like a bit of city action mixed in with your rural escape. Glasgow is only a 20-minute drive away from here, and it’s a great base for families who want to explore central Scotland too, as Stirling and Edinburgh both have plenty of historic sights and are easily accessed via the M80 and M9 motorways. But you don’t have to stray too far away from the site, as there’s masses to do locally too. As well as being the place to source bits and pieces for barbecue meals in the supermarkets, Cumbernauld (10 minutes) also has a raft of takeaways – from fish and chips to Chinese – if you’d rather have a change of flavour some nights. The town is also something of a gateway to nature walks and treetop rope courses in Palacerigg Country Park, and kids can wear themselves out with archery lessons and paintball battles at Cumbernauld Outdoor Activity Centre. Make sure they save some energy for time back at the site though – they're bound to want to spend time at the play park and explore the fairy wood. No need for dogs to miss out either, as there’s a special area where they can have a run around too. Other well-maintained amenities include chemical toilet disposal, a shower and loo block and baby-changing facilities. There are electric and water hook-up points too, plus over a mile of woodland and meadow walks just waiting for you and the family to explore.

What customers say

Guests praise the beautiful scenery, excellent facilities, and cleanliness, particularly the toilets and showers. Many enjoyed the woodland walks and found the staff friendly and helpful. However, some touring pitches were described as tired with waterlogged areas, and the location of waste disposal points was noted as inconvenient for upper pitches. WiFi is unavailable on pitches.

From the manager: We were surpised to read this review and the scores given in this review, as they do not align with the level of service and assistance provided during your stay.

In relation to customer service, we were happy to assist on several occasions, inclduing washing and drying laundry, thawing out frozen pipes with the extreme weather and helping with photocopying.

The washing and drying was quoted £20 for 2 loads for 2 x wash and 2 x dry. You asked us to just wash them for the £10, which we did but then as a gesture of goodwill we did the full service and dry them and fold them neatly for you too. You were so thrilled that we did this you asked was it ok if you gave a hug to thank us.

Cleanliness is something we take seriously. Shared toilet and shower facilities are checked regularly, and the wider site is checked daily, including throughout the holiday period. A cleanliness score of 1 does not reflect the standards or condition of the site we maintain here at Eden.

With regards to the photocopying; when asked about the cost for a single sheet, we ultimately provided this free of charge due to card payment minimums.

We don't understand why you didn't raise these concerns when you were on site and waited until now.

Wifi is accessible from the main building and shared areas. Due to our rural location, it does not extend fully to the pitches.

In terms of value for money, our pricing was increased for the first time in several years (after you stayed) to reflect on rising operational costs. We believe our rates remain fair and competitive for the location, facilities and level of service provided.

We welcome constructive feedback, but we are shocked that the scores given do not reflect your stay or the experiece offered at our site.

It is with regret that we write this but feel it was important to explain where we are coming from.

Liked We just spent a 5 days here over new year, in our caravan. We had travelled from South Wales and were visiting Scotland for a few days, doing some sightseeing.

On the day of our arrival we had a text in the morning with all the info for our pitch, the best way to get to the site (and avoid a low bridge with some sharp bends) and a map of the site. This was very helpful. The pitches were all level, very clean and the site in general is lovely. Being December in Scotland, it was freezing so we had some issues with the water but the staff were very helpful with getting things sorted for us quickly. We expected these issues so it wasn’t a problem.

Janet and the other staff are friendly and helpful, the facilities are immaculate and the site is amazing. We had a gift for New Year’s too, great touch. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area or like us, using it as a base to explore Glasgow (25 minutes away) or Edinburgh (45/60 minutes away). We will definitely be retuning later in the year.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (large)

Liked The view from pitch 9 was lovely & toilet/ shower facilities were really good & very clean.
The area with the glamping pods on & lodges was very pretty and well looked after

Disliked The upper touring pitches were very tired, not in keeping with the smart glamping area at all.
The only toilet emptying & grey waste disposal was located on the lower pitch area, unfortunately this was on the opposite end of the site, which was a long long way to walk with full toilet/grey water. We took ours in the car!!!
However the lower pitches had no view at all, it looked like a caravan parking area of a service station.
Our pitch was half covered in deep rainwater when we arrived as it had been raining. This meant that we had to wind our legs down while stood in a very deep puddle. Suggest drainage improvements.
Looks like a lot of money has been spent on glamping pods and pretty huts, but the touring pitches and area need to be a lot better for me to want to return here

From the manager: We are sorry to read your comments, especially given that you mentioned the views, clean facilities and well-kept area. Unfortunately, the heavy rain during your visit did cause some temporary surface water wheich we work hard to manage sometimes it is difficult in extreme weather.

Our touring pitches are set apart from the glamping area to give guests different styles of stay. We continue to make improvements to drainage and landscaping as part of our regular maintenance.

WiFi coverage in rural areas can be challenging. We have recently installed fibre at our main building and awaiting the network to be split for customers to be able to use. I am afraid, at the moment the signal, won't be able to stretch to the pitches.

Most sites say they offer wifi but it is commonly at the main reception and facilities, very few actually manage to give strong full site coverage especially in rural wooded areas.

To wire wifi fully for whole site usage is very costly and would not be sustainable for us to provide this.

Local attractions

Glasgow (20 minutes’ drive) is home to cracking masterpieces in Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, where you can easily spend hours – and combine it with a visit to the exotic Burrell Collection (both 30 minutes) or hands-on Glasgow Science Centre (30 minutes). Edinburgh (an hour to the centre) offers a handsome castle, buzzing bars and busking in the Royal Mile, while Stirling (25 minutes) has a photogenic castle of its own, as well as the dramatic Wallace Monument (30 minutes). Closer to base camp, take the kids to see birds of prey flying at World of Wings (five minutes), and all the family can splash around in the pools at The Time Capsule (15 minutes). Save the soft-play centre at Adventure Planet (15 minutes) for a rainy day, and if that doesn’t tire everybody out, then try a visit to Footgolf Cumbernauld (five minutes). For outdoor adventures, jump in the car and head to the Trossachs National Park, criss-crossed with walking and cycling routes, or stop off at Luss on Loch Lomond (both an hour), for a high-speed boat cruise along the shoreline.
