  • Glamping units next to the Caledonian Canal with views over Loch Lochy
  • A 15-minute drive to Invergarry and 20 minutes to Fort Augustus
  • Accommodation includes kitchenettes, beds and woodburning stoves
Level up on luxury during a trip to Scotland with a swanky stay at Braw, a site made up of renovated bothy-style accommodation. The units sit next to the Caledonian Canal with stunning views across to Loch Lochy (reachable in less than a 20-minute walk) in the Scottish Highlands and Islands region. If you’re up for maximising your proximity to the watery surrounds, a passenger ferry comes by the site every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (in the summer months) so you can put your bike on board for trips further afield before cycling back home. A floating gastropub is set up on the canal between spring and autumn every year as well for feeding time once you return. After you’re fully sated and are back in your accommodation, a woodburning stove, seating area and mini kitchen with sink, two-ring hob, fridge and kettle are all ready to hand. Units come with pots and pans, cutlery, plates, bowls, cups and glasses too along with firewood, towels, washing-up liquid, tea towels and bed linen, so there’s no need to raid your house in preparation for your hol. The shower block opposite the accommodation has toilet facilities and the coffee shop at Laggan Locks (15 minutes’ walk) sells breakfast bits and bobs as well as essentials like shampoo.

Local attractions

This site sits just off the 73-mile-long Great Glen Way, which you can journey along by boat, foot or bike to Banavie (30-minute drive) – one of the nearest villages to mighty mountain Ben Nevis – or to Fort Augustus (20 minutes by car) sitting at the south west end of Loch Ness. Once you’re at the lake and have tired of looking out for the famed monster, take a boat trip or drop by the ruins of Urquhart Castle for a rather grand view. Another stately structure worth visiting is Invergarry Castle (15 minutes), while yet more spectacular bodies of water – like Loch Oich, also 15 minutes away – can easily be visited too. One of the best known sights near this park is Neptune’s Staircase locks (35 minutes), a popular place to watch the boats navigate through the smart system set up by 19th-century Scottish civil engineer Thomas Telford. Also 35 minutes away is the Glen Roy National Nature Reserve if wilder activities are what you’re after – set off from here on hikes to the scenic Charles Darwin glacier.
