  • Glamping pod at the Falls of Shin on the North Coast 500 route
  • Surrounded by forestry trails, half an hour’s drive from the coast
  • A 10-minute drive from shops, a café, restaurant and fish and chips
Is your Scottish adventure taking you into the northern Highlands? Whether you’re coasting along the North Coast 500 route along the north coast or taking yourself away for wildlife watching and hikes, NC 500 Base Camp is just the place to get away. This camping pod is in the middle of the northern Highlands, and well-situated for forest walks and wildlife spotting. The location’s pretty darn splendid, a couple of hundred metres away from the Falls of Shin. Keep your eyes peeled for salmon leaping out of the water, which are often visible from the viewing platform. The sound of the water can be heard from the pod - what a morning soundtrack that makes. The pod is surrounded by dense woodland, the majority of which is owned by Forestry and Land Scotland. Naturally, the area attracts lots of wildlife, from deer and pine marten on the ground to numerous birds of prey and midges in the sky. There’s very minimal light pollution here, as you might expect. There are regular sightings of the northern lights in the area, along with impressive starry skies. The most challenging decision of your getaway might be choosing whether to relax inside or out. Extend your adventures to the east, south and west Highlands if you fancy it. The central location is also 10 minutes’ drive away from Lairg, where there’s a petrol station, two shops, a pharmacy, a post office, local businesses such as a café, fish and chips takeaway and a restaurant (highly spoken of by the owners, just saying). To the south, Bonar Bridge (10 minutes’ drive) has a food shop, a butcher, a pharmacy and a post office.

Camping pod

Liked: Absolutely loved our stay. Plenty of walks for my doggie. The pod was beautiful, clean. The Bed was comfy, the kitchen was perfect - everything I needed. The Hosts always checked via email if I needed anything. But also respected our privacy.

Disliked: Nothing
