General

  • In a Highlands forest with spectacular mountain views
  • Close to the Great Glen Way and near Loch Ness
  • Modern facilities including shower rooms and small shop

Might you know what 'coille' means in Scottish Gaelic? It means forest – which as you'll see is a mighty fitting name for the Highlands site of Inver Coille, tucked into in its own surrounding woodland with spectacular mountain views from most areas of the site.

This is definite hiking (and Nessie spotting) territory: have a short evening stroll to the local viewpoints or pleasant hike along the Way to the nearby villages of Invermoriston (two miles) or Fort Augustus (four miles), all while keeping a beady eye out for the famed Loch Ness Monster...

To keep things peaceful and safe on site, the owners ask that cars remain in the parking area once guests have offloaded their gear; just ask if you need aid and the team will be happy to help, or you can grab a wheelbarrow to shift all your kit. Either way, call into the reception area on arrival, to pick up tourist info on the area or ask the knowledgeable owners for their top tips on what to see and do. You can charge your phones and other electrical gadgets in reception too, in exchange for a few coins into the site's charity tins.

Also on site is a shared amenities block with a washing-up area, drinking water supply and shower rooms. Water is filtered from the burn which runs alongside the site (through UV and coil filtration, and tested by the Highland Council environment department).

As befits such a wildly handsome Highlands setting, campfires are allowed here, so pick up your logs and firelighting kits as well as grocery items from the ‘Highland’s smallest shop’. Local shops, post offices and pubs are a few miles away.

Dogs are most welcome; the owners have three dogs of their own.

So many midges, dog poo on site

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, and we are pleased to hear how great our campsite is and with lovely mountain views. We are of course shocked to hear that you found a dog poo here on-site, we pride ourselves on being very clean and if you had of come and mentioned it to us at reception we would happily removed it for you. Whilst we do allow dogs on site we ask that owners keep them on a lead and to pick up after them, and we regularly walk around the site to keep it clean and tidy. So we are sorry that you experienced this
As for the midges they are a part of the natural habitat here in the North/West of Scotland and are more active in certain weather conditions, so if it was wet, and still here then they may have been more of a nuisance. We do sell a midge repellent, midge nets and smoke from a campfire can certainly help. We also have a midge machine working on site too.

Friendly helpful staff and owners. Facilities where of a high standard and overnighters on Great Glen Way commented much better then some other sites.

    Disliked:

As always in the Highlands at this time of year, esp following a period of rain and with little breeze or direct hot sunshine, the midges became a pain. We Smidged up and had headnets but they could still be itritating. Sitting around a smokey fire certainly helped.

From the manager...

Many thanks for your review, we are all glad you enjoyed our brand new pod and our location for exploring the area. Whilst the pod doesn't have electric in it, there are solar powered lights and a cool box with ice packs for food items. There is also an area in reception for you to charge items during our opening hours, and you are very welcome to sit in reception whilst your items are on charge if you prefer. We hope to welcome you to Inver Coille again.
