General

  • Three miles from Invermoriston
  • Relaxing location between mountains and trees
  • Modern facilities and full comfort

Inver Coille is pronounced 'Inver Coya': ‘Coya’ means forest in Scottish Gaelic.

This is family-run site enclosed in its own surrounding natural woodland with beautiful mountain views from most areas of the site. The woodland has direct access to the Great Glen Way forestry commission path and its stunning views over the loch in both directions: have a short evening stroll to the viewpoints photographed or a good long hike.

The site has a shared facilities block with a washing up area, drinking water supply and shower rooms. Water is filtered from the burn which runs beside us on site. There's also the ‘Highlands smallest on-site shop’ stocking everyday items; logs and firelighting kits for the campfire are sold on site too.

There's car parking spaces and the owners ask that all customers park their cars here once they have offloaded; if you need assistance then please ask as they're are more than happy to help. The new reception area has tourist information and the owenrs have a good knowledge of the local area so feel free to ask us for tips on what to see and do. Charging of electrical items is available in exchange for a donation into the site's charity tins.

Inver Coille is a convenient family base for exploring the Highlands, a great resting place for walkers or cyclists and above all a chance to really get away from everyday life, whether you decide to stay here for one night or more.

All dogs that come to stay are welcome; the owners have three dogs of their own.

Stayed in Bell Tent and was impressed with cleanliness and equipment provided. All hosts were fabulous and couldn't have done more to help us. Facilities were clean and modern. Loved the fire pit for use of all in the centre, was just unfortunate that we couldn't use it due to weather.

    Disliked:

No appropriate motorbike parking. Host offered an alternative area which we used but unfortunately this was slippery due to wet moss.l
Have never seen so many mosquitoes in all our travels in Scotland and would recommend taking good mossie spray AND citronella candles.

    Showers and toilets very clean

    Disliked:

Lack of parking space and slightly far from nearby towns to walk so car required.

From the manager...

Many thanks for your review, we are aware of the lack of car-parking and are looking into ways to expand this for next year. We also manage our car-parking by assign a car parking space to each booking/customer. We are 4 miles from the nearest village of Fort Augustus which has many gift shops, a very well stocked supermarket at the back of the petrol station, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Many of our customers have walked on the Great Glen Way from the back of the campsite to Fort Augustus and then got a bus back to us in the evening. We provide both information on the bus timetable and information on the nearest facilities in our reception area. The bigger cities of Inverness and Fort William are an hours drive from us, this is however the joys of the Highlands of Scotland, whereby not everything is right on your doorstep and you have to be prepared to travel.

From the manager...

Many thanks for your review. I'm a bit confused as to why you mentioned the wifi when we don't offer any. If you meant mobile signal then this area isn't great for that either, some say they can use their mobile reception data, others not! I guess a lot depends on your mobile phone provider.

    Disliked:

The only thing that put me off was the midgies, which can't really be helped so be sure to bring plenty of bug repellent.
