  • Luxury cabins in a secluded spot in stunning Glen Urquhart
  • A 10-minute drive from Loch Ness and half an hour from Inverness
  • Fully-fitted kitchens, smart bathrooms and top-notch linens
Might you spot the famed Loch Ness monster while staying at BCC Loch Ness Log Cabins? Frankly, it’s unlikely – but don’t let that dismay you too much, for there’s a plentiful supply of other excellent things to set your eyes upon around this stunning part of Scotland. For starters, you’ll want to spend a bit of time gazing out over the loch… and that’s easily done from this spot in Glen Urquhart, 10 minutes’ drive from Drumnadrochit on the eastern shore of Loch Ness. And no doubt you’ll want to make the most of your immediate surrounds as well: the lodges here are set among 30 acres of natural space, with gorgeous views down the glen and up to the Suidhe Ghuirmain peaks. Whether the monster exists or not is up for debate but there’s certainly plenty of other beasts thriving nearby – keep eyes peeled for shaggy Highland cattle in the local fields, plus passing wildlife such as grouse, roe deer, buzzards and red squirrels. Matching up to the spectacular surrounds are the rather fine interiors of the cabins themselves, constructed from solid round logs in a secluded spot by a silver birch wood and a stream. Each one has a fully-fitted kitchen, a swish bathroom and living spaces that max those views from indoors and out; top-notch bed linen and towels are part of the deal too. Such a retreat requires an epic drive along rough tracks, right? Not at all – this place is a handy half-hour drive from Inverness along A roads.

Local attractions

You’ve come along here for the outdoorsy escapades, right? Well, there are certainly plenty of those to pick from… fishing, pony trekking and golf are popular picks within a half-hour drive, and mountain bikers can head for the trails at Balnain Bike Park, two miles from the site. Those looking for walks and bike rides should set forth for Glen Urquhart Forest (five minutes’ drive), the ancient Corrimony Chambered Cairn (five minutes) and Glen Affric National Nature Reserve (20 minutes). And there’s the loch, of course – home to boat trips (both leisurely and high-speed varieties), watersports and the splendid Urquhart Castle (15 minutes). You may be reluctant to drag yourselves away from such things, but it’s worth doing so for a trip to Inverness (half an hour) to visit the botanic gardens and Eden Court theatre and pick up your own tartan outfits at the shops (and perhaps swing home via the Glen Ord distillery for some whisky to sip back at base).

Black Grouse 1 bedroom lodge

Liked: Absolutely loved the location and the cabin. Simple TV and entertainment, had everything we needed and the shower is absolutely brilliant. Amazing views, a lovely location and is tranquil. Exactly what we were looking for, a break from the city. The "no WiFi" realisation was quite a pleasant one (if there was one, we did not try too hard to find it *wink*)

Disliked: Would've appreciated toiletries and some basic kitchen items (such as tea, sugar, etc.) but this was not a problem at all as we were well aware that we needed to take everything along, given the location. This is NOT a complaint, but merely a suggestion.

Black Grouse 1 bedroom lodge

Liked: The shower

Disliked: Reception : we drove in and was unsure if it was a junk yard. Dumped cars and trailers overflowing with rubbish. Parking : advertisements stated a parking pitch outside the Cabin we were messaged while on route and told “ you can park outside the lodge if you have a 4x4. This was after 12hrs travelling. Further more on the parking when we did park down hill from the cabin minimum of 20 metre with a steep climb, When we got out of the car we were hit with a smell and found an open overflowing sess pit with raw sewage festering. The log cabin : we opened the door and the whole cabin had a bad smell, so I began to detol spray everything. The fixtures and fitting were tired dirty and missing. The bed was old with a tired mattress with springs digging into you I wouldn’t be surprised if it was stuffed with straw. The cooker hob was broken and chipped. The cupboards in kitchen were handing on, the sofa had someone’s dirty socks in it. The washing machine had mud and filth in it. The kitchen utensils were filthy. The cabins structure had leaked and been left to go mouldy. This cabin had clearly had no care or thought. The balcony : has a great view if you only look right and avoid the rusty nail I trod on in the hole in the floor👎 WiFi : Your advert stated Wi-Fi on site. Think you mean wiffy!!! No Wi-Fi. Towels and bedding were tired all in all we travel up to Scotland and explore the stunning scenery often and have never stayed in such poorly kept accommodation. Zero contact from the start with no one person to approach should you have a problem or need anything. Very very angry and disappointed.
