  • Family beachfront park with a huge range of facilities for all ages
  • Kids' and teens' clubs, bowling and adventure playground with zipwire
  • Pool, crazy golf, amusements, bar lounge, shop and restaurant
Cor, you'll wish your Grannie’s home was as cool as this: slap bang on the beachfront, with an indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna, tennis courts and Costa coffee on tap… Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame Holiday Park sits beside the powdery white sands of Embo beach near the historic town of Dornoch, in prime position for a romp around the Scottish Highlands. If you’re bringing the family, rest assured that the chances of the little ones getting bored are slim to none. Aside from the pool- and beach-based shenanigans, there’s mini ten-pin bowling, crazy golf, an amusement arcade, kids’ clubs featuring the Starland Krew, plus a great adventure playground with a zipwire, swings and slides. Older children and teens can get stuck into making their own animated movies or hit the decks at a DJ workshop in the Freestyle club. Grownups, meanwhile, will likely appreciate the smashing views across the Dornoch Firth – bottlenose dolphins and seals are regularly seen frolicking in the foam – plus the extensive facilities, which include a bar lounge and restaurant, evening entertainment, shop, launderette and more. Grannie would definitely approve…

What customers say

This campsite is praised for its excellent beachside location, proximity to Dornoch, and a wide range of activities for families. Visitors highlight friendly staff, good facilities including a bar and restaurant, and well-maintained, level pitches. However, some reviews mention concerns regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of toilet and shower blocks, with occasional issues of blockages and outdated facilities. Some guests also noted noise from other campers and found prices for food and drinks to be expensive. Manager replies indicate that issues with facilities are being investigated.

Liked Nice staff

Disliked We stayed in campervan. The facilities were dated, smelly and above all else, the showers and toilets were filthy. The pitch numbers are all faded and it took ages to find ours. The laundry machines smelled and the dishwashing area foul. There are beautiful caravans on site but absolutely no money spent on the camping end. DO NOT RECOMMEND (No WiFi either).

Electric grass pitch

Liked Nice big site on the beach. Good size pitches.water close by. Dornoch is lovely to walk round which is approx 3 to 4 mile away. We didn’t use the club on site.

Disliked We did the NC500 and had to change dates. This was the only site that wouldn’t let us change dates. Gave 8/10 weeks notice but they took the payment for the original night & the new night. All the smaller sites agreed to the new dates at no extra charge. Facilities where dirty one loo didn’t work and the other no loo roll.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Beach location
Shop, good selection of take aways, big toilet/shower facilities and restaurant/bar.
Good power, water, waste etc
Close to beautiful Dornoch.

Disliked Bar wasn’t dog friendly, but could fit in conservatory or beer garden.
Noisy campers due to being a Friday evening/night.
Quite expensive bar prices.

Liked Entertainment was good

Disliked Toilets and showers. Every morning toilets were blocked or without toilet roll. Showers using push button only allowing a couple of minutes of continuous running water makes showering laborious and there was no bench to set your bag with clean clothes on. Three hooks on the wall not enough to hang up everything to keep it clean and dry.

Local attractions

Dornoch, the pretty little town nearest to Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame Holiday Park, has a range of small independent shops, a cathedral dating back to 1224 and one of the best championship golf courses in the world. Otherwise, if you fancy a day trip, there’s a decent variety of things to do nearby. For a fairytale castle with a French flavour, take a tour of Dunrobin Castle, which stages falconry displays twice daily in its gorgeous grounds; Black Isle Wildlife Park has child-pleasing meerkats, lemurs and zebras; whisky lovers can wet their whistle at the Glenmorangie Distillery; and the spectacular waterfalls at Falls of Shin are one of the best places in Scotland to see salmon feats of derring-do as the fish leap upstream between May and September, or to go geocaching, walking and cycling along the forest trails. If you don’t mind travelling a bit further, it’s an easy drive to classic destinations such as John O’Groats, Loch Ness and Ullapool.
