  • Adults-only site for CAMC members five minutes’ drive from Wigtown
  • Galloway Forest Park 15 minutes’ drive; Machair peninsula 35 minutes
  • Dumfries and Galloway hill views from quiet and dog-friendly pitches
One for Caravan and Motorhome Club members only, Borrowmoss Farm Certified Location has a glorious location five minutes’ drive from Wigtown – Scotland’s National Book Town. A small adults-only site with just a handful of pitches, it has uninterrupted views over fields and paddocks to the hills of Dumfries and Galloway beyond. This is a very dog-friendly site, but please remember you share the place with farm animals and horses (they’d love to meet you), so you’ll need to keep your four-legged chums on a lead around the pitches – there’s a handy hose to wash off muddy paws too. Each pitch has its own water supply, and a metered hook-up point with a smart card reader so you only pay for the electricity you use. There’s a toilet block, plus an information station with guide books, maps, DVDs and games as well as inspiration for eating out and what to see. The site is handy for stopovers on your way to/from the Cairnryan Ferry (45 minutes’ drive) to Belfast via the A75. You can also easily walk or cycle along the single-track road into Wigtown, from where buses go to Newton Stewart, Garlieston, Whithorn or Port William.

Local attractions

Fans of the outdoor life can immerse themselves in the spectacular scenery of Galloway Forest Park (15 minutes’ drive) on foot or by bike, while anglers can fish for trout in the lochans. Whatever you choose to do, keep an eye out for red deer as you go. The quiet and untamed Machair peninsula (35 minutes) is also a stunning spot for cliff-top walks overlooking the Irish Sea. If you fancy a day at the seaside, take a picnic to the sandy stretch at Dalavan Bay (25 minutes), or head for Carrick Beach (40 minutes) and walk across to tiny, rocky Ardwall Island at low tide. As well as being home to numerous book shops, Wigtown (five minutes) has a golf course as well as a sprinkling of pubs and restaurants. If you’re looking for a larger urban centre, Newton Stewart (15 minutes) has a great choice of takeaways and cafés as well as a leisure centre and cinema for any rainy days.

Liked: Very good location. The toilets were clean. The pitches were very flat with a view over looking fields and hills. This site was quiet and well kept. With great hosts who were there to greet us on arrival and provided us with a useful information pack. Would definitely stay here again. A lovely hidden gem.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.
