  • Peaceful, family-friendly holiday park in the hills of Dumfries
  • Dumfries, Moffat, castles and cycle routes within an hour's drive
  • Bar and bistro, forest walks and private fjord for fishing
When you think of Scotland, what leaps to mind? If you answered stunning scenery, spectacular lochs and Mel Gibson, well… two out of three ain’t bad. Settle in at Dumfries and Galloway's Moffat Manor Holiday Park, just outside the small village of Beattock and 10 minutes’ drive from the town of Moffat, for views, rambles and relaxing by the water. This is a splendid spot for bikers of all sorts: if you like to stick to the roads, you can pedal along Route 74 from Beattock towards Gretna Green to join the famed Sea to Sea Cycle Route, or you can up the adrenaline with trips to two of the 7stanes mountain biking centres (Mabie and the Forest of Ae) for going-downhill-at-speed days. You don’t need to go far for holiday explores though: the site is on more than 80 acres of woodland, with loads of country walks along pretty streams and even a private loch for waterside strolls and a spot of fishing. When your stomach starts rumbling, saunter over to the Lakeside Tavern & Restaurant for a bite to eat and a couple of drinks, as well as a few nights’ evening entertainment. The Lakeside is only open from Wednesday to Sunday, so you’re on your own the rest of the week – fire up the barbecue if you fancy (an on-site shop has all the essentials and there’s a supermarket in Moffat), or head into Moffat or Dumfries to dine at one of the restaurants.

What customers say

This is a spacious and attractive site with friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. Many visitors praised the cleanliness of the showers and toilets, noting regular cleaning, even though they were in portacabins due to ongoing refurbishment. The site is generally quiet and peaceful, with attractive grounds, rabbits, and good local walks nearby. The on-site bar and restaurant received positive mentions for food and entertainment. Some pitches are noted as being on a slope, and there were occasional reports of overflowing bins and limited shop stock. The site is well-located for exploring Moffat and surrounding areas.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Just the quietness and the shower and toilets where always cleaned regular so that was satisfying

Disliked The motorhome was set on a hill so i was kinda walking up hill until i got 1 of the friendly staff to bring some boards to level up slightly, the pub on the site is very expensive so we used the pub outside the site,£15 for pizza thats why the people staying on-site dont use it, the manager was never to be seen it was 2 young girls liv & toni running the show that needs to be sorted out aswell so for that reason its a 👎down for me

Electric grass pitch

Liked Grounds are great and immaculate, the campsite is well positioned as a base for checking out various places within a max 30 minute drive. There’s a helpful wee shop onsite and a bar/lounge with various decent options inside. Toilets were great and always clean and there was a decent sink with quick hot water for washing dishes. The pitches for tents were big with plenty electric hookup points and plenty space on the grass for games with the kids though watch out for the numerous holes the HUNDREDS of rabbits have dug that are covered by grass 😬 The walk around the loch is nice and the staff were very helpful when speaking too or asking for help. Really good value for money as a camper!!

Disliked I rolled my ankle a beauty on the grass from the rabbit holes so genuinely watch for them as there’s plenty. The lounge/bar is decent though some of the drinks prices were steep I thought. Given it’s surrounded by hills, mobile signal can be temperamental and WiFi was only accessible in the lounge or reception, some positives to that when on holiday I suppose but better WiFi would be appreciated for when needed 🤷‍♂️ The trains are close, frequent and loud but not sure anyone can do much about the tracks position so bring earplugs if a light sleeper. Being midgie repellant and candles 😬

Electric grass pitch

Liked The grounds were lovely, friendly staff and liked the clubhouse. Pitches were large although the one we were in was not as level as we would have liked.

Disliked We were not told that the old toilets were out of action and one of our party was able to gain access with no notice saying they were closed. The toilets obviously had not been used for a very long time and were filthy, broken and to be honest, dangerous. They need to be properly secured. The temporary toilets and showers, however, we're very clean and up to a good standard. However we should have been made aware that they existed.... we were not informed until we challenged the fact that we had used the condemned ones ........

Electric grass pitch

Liked Site generally quiet and well run.
Limited opening but enjoyed the bar/ restaurant and vibe for the World Cup.
Shop has basic supplies and larger shops in Dumfries and Lockerbie.
Proximity to Moffat and St Mary’s Loch.

Disliked Some other guests who ignored speed limit and allowed kids to ride electric motorcycles and e-scooters to detriment of others. Said guests not supervising kids.
Lack of flat pitches for tents.
Limited shady spots for tents was unbearable in the unexpected 30 degrees.

Local attractions

You could easily spend your entire break on the site, but there’s so much nearby that you’d be missing. Stop number one should be the town of Dumfries, half an hour away – it was the home of famed national poet Rabbie Burns and there’s plenty around to honour the wordsmith, but the museum and Moat Brae (JM Barrie’s childhood home) are also worth a look. Turn your wheels next to stunning Drumlanrig Castle (which TV addicts may recognise from the second season of Outlander) 45 minutes away, to wander the gardens or – if you’ve timed your visit well – tours and tea in the grand house itself, which houses artwork from Sandby, Gainsborough and Rembrandt. If you’re after a quickie wedding, it doesn’t get much quicker than a half-hour car journey down the A74 to Gretna Green, where 18th-century marriages were performed at the drop of a hat (or hammer, in the famous blacksmith’s shop). The village still does weddings, but they need a little bit more notice these days… Craving a city day or two? The shops, museums, galleries and tourist spots of Glasgow and Edinburgh are between an hour and an hour and a half away.
