Pitches

  • Peaceful, family-friendly holiday park in the hills of Dumfries
  • Dumfries, Moffat, castles and cycle routes within an hour's drive
  • Bar and bistro, forest walks and private fjord for fishing
When you think of Scotland, what leaps to mind? If you answered stunning scenery, spectacular lochs and Mel Gibson, well… two out of three ain’t bad. Settle in at Dumfries and Galloway's Moffat Manor Holiday Park, just outside the small village of Beattock and 10 minutes’ drive from the town of Moffat, for views, rambles and relaxing by the water. This is a splendid spot for bikers of all sorts: if you like to stick to the roads, you can pedal along Route 74 from Beattock towards Gretna Green to join the famed Sea to Sea Cycle Route, or you can up the adrenaline with trips to two of the 7stanes mountain biking centres (Mabie and the Forest of Ae) for going-downhill-at-speed days. You don’t need to go far for holiday explores though: the site is on more than 80 acres of woodland, with loads of country walks along pretty streams and even a private loch for waterside strolls and a spot of fishing. When your stomach starts rumbling, saunter over to the Lakeside Tavern & Restaurant for a bite to eat and a couple of drinks, as well as a few nights’ evening entertainment. The Lakeside is only open from Wednesday to Sunday, so you’re on your own the rest of the week – fire up the barbecue if you fancy (an on-site shop has all the essentials and there’s a supermarket in Moffat), or head into Moffat or Dumfries to dine at one of the restaurants.

What customers say

This site offers a beautiful location with friendly, helpful staff and reasonable prices. However, many guests have reported issues with ongoing renovations, leading to temporary, often inadequate, toilet and shower facilities. Pitches are frequently described as sloping and uneven, and maintenance of bins and general cleanliness has been a recurring concern. Some visitors found the site to be a work in progress with potential for improvement.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Really friendly, welcoming and informative staff at guest services.

The site itself is clean, well lit and well maintained. Very easily accessible from the road.

Wild bunnies all around!

Disliked Grass pitches which weren't well thought out/allocated dependant on accommodation - fine for tents but our tourer was on a slope making it very hard to position initially and then near impossible to get off after a night of heavy rain.

Toilets/shower block were well kept but ended up very dirty by morning, with toilet and hand tissues empty and dirt all over the floor. No sanitary waste bin meant used personal products were put in the waste paper bins. One water point for all touring pitches, which was really far away.

Liked Pitch was ok

Disliked Toilet block is porta cabin, toilets were blocked but after complaining they got them fixed.
Place is very run down.
Tavern we waited 1hr 20mins for food in the end we got a refund & went off site for food. Some else had waited an hour for food & it came out frozen in the middle.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Affordable, toilets were kept clean during the day and nice for there to be an allocated playing field near the tents so the children could play. Being able to park next to the tent is always a bonus.

Disliked Unfortunately the pitches aren't clearly marked so throughout our stay many people were endlessly driving round trying to figure out where their spot was.
The slopes you pitch on are not exaggerated in other people's reviews, we asked for one of the flatter pitches (due to a disability) and still ended up on a big slope where we kept sliding in our beds during the night or falling on camp chairs...literally 😔

There are big lights above the fuse boxes for hook up, an option to turn these off or have them go off at certain times of night would be nice. A continuous glare from every single hook up point during the night was crazy.

And finally, the kids play park was right at the front of the resort. Didn't like the children having to go near the main road/entrance when they wanted to go to the park, one nearer the pitches would have been nicer.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The site looked nice and surrounded with beautiful scenery. The lodges and static caravans all looked well kept and decent sizes. The facilities (showers and toilets) were clean and a good sizes. The bar was nice and relaxed with some arcade games and a pool table. Kids allowed in but not allowed near the bar. Bar itself had a good menus of drinks including cocktails (but missing many ingredients unfortunately). Staff were friendly and helpful. There was a shop on site but we didn’t use it so can’t comment. Easy to find location and perfect for a stop over as it’s just off the motorway. Plenty shops and eating establishments around in nearby Moffat.

Disliked The multiple noisy trains passing by…. The site is right beside a train track. In your welcome pack you are told you may hear the odd train…. We counted 6 passing by within the hour on a Monday evening. When the site is quiet they rip through like a loud rumbling noise. Camp pitches are on quite a slope in area “A1” quite a steep downward hill so we moved back a bit where it was a little more flat, not sure if you would be able to if more tents were pitched. Lots of rabbit holes also, unavoidable not to pitch your tent over them.
Lots of rubbish around, bins full and over spilling therefore seagulls pulling rubbish over the place.

Electric grass pitch

Liked pub

Disliked if your a serious motorhomer this place is not for you, the pitches are ridiculous there so uneven it's hard to describe, we booked a pitch with EHU and to our horror the EHU is in the middle of about 13 pitches and there was 6 sockets all of which were taken by people in tents at least 30m away. we went to reception to ask about it and was told by a young lady....aye your pitch has ECH so i said yes but there is none left and even if there was i would need a 40m cable to reach it......aye so it's still EHU isnt it.....i didnt even bother argue as i just new by her initial response what i would have got so me and my wife stayed that night and left first thing next morning! best way to describe the place is the Benidorm of campsites.....avoid at all cost because i assure you you will understand what i mean as soon as you have the misfortune of pulling up at your pitch.

Local attractions

You could easily spend your entire break on the site, but there’s so much nearby that you’d be missing. Stop number one should be the town of Dumfries, half an hour away – it was the home of famed national poet Rabbie Burns and there’s plenty around to honour the wordsmith, but the museum and Moat Brae (JM Barrie’s childhood home) are also worth a look. Turn your wheels next to stunning Drumlanrig Castle (which TV addicts may recognise from the second season of Outlander) 45 minutes away, to wander the gardens or – if you’ve timed your visit well – tours and tea in the grand house itself, which houses artwork from Sandby, Gainsborough and Rembrandt. If you’re after a quickie wedding, it doesn’t get much quicker than a half-hour car journey down the A74 to Gretna Green, where 18th-century marriages were performed at the drop of a hat (or hammer, in the famous blacksmith’s shop). The village still does weddings, but they need a little bit more notice these days… Craving a city day or two? The shops, museums, galleries and tourist spots of Glasgow and Edinburgh are between an hour and an hour and a half away.
