Very level pitches on super pitches.

  • Camping pod

  • Liked:

The camping pod was great. Really good quality with excellent warmth and sound insulation. The view from the pod was lovely over the grass and trees to the shore beyond. Good beaches nearby. Perfect for the 3 of us.
The toilets and showers were warm and clean. Staff were pleasant.
The Belfry cafe and Selkirk Arms Hotel in Kirkcudbright were really friendly with fab food
    Small kids play area.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately the nearest toilets to the pod and the tv/games room were not open on the Wednesday of our stay as it was the staff day off. This coincided with awful weather of heavy wind and rain the whole day meaning we did not have access to the nearest facilities when we needed it most for us and our 5 year old so we got a bit more wet and cold than we'd have liked each time we had to walk further up to the main toilet block. There was no notice of this on the door of the building. It would have been nice to know.
The wee shop was poorly stocked with not much that was useful e.g. bread.
The edging of the seating in the pod was a little torn and needs replaced or repaired.
The shower tray did not drain well and so overflowed and flooded the floor by the time I had finished a very quick shower. Fortunately my clothes were hanging up.

this is a small site about 10 minutes drive from Kirkcudbright. It is well laid out with good hardstanding pitches. The views over the estuary are fantastic & there is a small beach across from the entrance. Toilets & showers are clean ; they appear to have been upgraded recently. There was masses of hot water & at last a site that has shower cubicles big enough to get dried & put clothes on without having to be a contortionist !! Staff are friendly & helpful.
    We will be back.

Small site, fabulous views from caravan over the bay especially when the thunder and lightening was rumbling in the sky, the lightening lit the whole of the bay up - amazing!
Really good showers and facilities - nicest we've ever seen.
This site only has all gravel super pitches.
As to be expected at the end of September the whole area was quiet.
    Rabbits everywhere!

    Disliked:

Please can you oil the hinges on the toilet doors - what a noise!

Local attractions

Bring the family's bikes if you can, as the famed 7stanes forest trails at Dalbeattie and Kirroughtree are only 30 minutes away from and the Sustrans Route 7 passes right outside the park entrance. (If you haven't brought bikes, hire them just outside the Dalbeattie trail or near the Kirroughtree Forest visitor centre.)

By hike rather than bike, there's a wealth of walks around the coast, hills and forests of the area as well as an easy stroll to the sea, shingle cove and sandy beach of Dhoon Bay minutes from the caravan park.

Golfers have loads to pick from too including the championship Brighouse Bay course a short drive away along the coast; horse riding, a wildlife conservation park and activity centres are in the region, and the tasty chocolate factory of the Cocobean Company is only 10 minutes' drive away.

More gently, the harbour town of Kirkcudbright town has a good clutch of coffee shops and galleries in which to while away the day, as well as the Stewartry Museum with a good collection of works by local artists (there are quite a few). Also recommended is heading to the harbour to watch the fishing boats unload their catch – you might even come over all artistic yourself – and watch them, the yachts and the lifeboats leave Kirkcudbright Bay.

Finally, take a stargazing look at spectacular Galloway Forest Park, the UK's first Dark Sky Park and one of only four designated in all of Europe.

Must see

  • John Paul Jones Cottage Museum & Visitor Centre (20.5 miles)
  • Robert Burns Centre (25.2 miles)
