  • Adults-only site by a river half an hour's drive from the coast
  • A five-minute drive from Dalscone Farm Fun; 10 minutes from Dumfries
  • Games room with a pool table; shop nearby; peaceful location
If you’re after a relaxing, well-equipped spot to park up for just the night or you are looking to stick around and explore stunning Dumfries and Galloway, you’ve hit upon the right spot. Newbridge Country Park is a modern, adults-only holiday park that handily suits both purposes, being half an hour’s drive from the M74 (for journeys to the Highlands or south to the Lakes) and about the same distance from beaches and historic castles. Set over several acres, the holiday park is only just off the A76, so there's no need to navigate country lanes or side roads to get there. It has spectacular views over the hills of Galloway Forest Park (half an hour’s drive), where you can soon be out exploring on foot or by bike. Anglers can cast for brown trout at Alderneuk Fishery or fly fish for salmon (in season) on the River Nith (both 15 minutes), and there are a couple of golf courses within 15 minutes’ drive too. There are major supermarkets and a retail park within five minutes' drive of the site for picking up food and other bits and bobs. A petrol station selling essentials is a 10-minute walk from the site; next door to the petrol station is a café inside a pet shop that serves lovely breakfasts, lunches and delicious cakes and scones. Take your pick of cosy pubs, organic cafés and restaurants serving local Scottish produce in Dumfries, 10 minutes' drive away, too. Back at base camp, all the pitches are neatly landscaped, and spotless facilities on the site include two showers, a wheelchair-accessible wet room and a laundry room, plus chemical disposal. There is also a games room with a pool table, football table and comfortable seating.

What customers say

This is a very clean, well-maintained, and peaceful campsite with spacious, level pitches. Guests consistently praise the immaculate facilities, particularly the showers, and the excellent dog walking field by the river. Staff are frequently described as friendly and helpful. The games room is a popular amenity. While some noted limited shower facilities close to touring pitches, additional facilities are available a short walk away. Road noise is occasionally mentioned but generally not an issue due to the site's layout.

Local attractions

Dumfries (10 minutes’ drive) was the birthplace of Robbie Burns in 1759; see displays on the life of Scotland’s favourite poet, as well as portraits and period rooms, at the Robert Burns House, or read more about his life and times at the Robert Burns Centre, an 18th-century watermill sitting on the banks of the River Nith. There’s more on his backstory at Robert Burns Ellisland Farm (five minutes), a sprawling homestead where he once farmed. Spectacular Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens (20 minutes) makes a great day out too, with its stellar art collection and woodland walks. For more Scottish heritage, stop by the moated remains of medieval Caerlaverock Castle (25 minutes), or have a nose around the impressive cloisters of 13th-century Sweetheart Abbey (20 minutes) in New Abbey. If you prefer to do your exploring on foot, amble up to the 60-foot waterfall in Grey Mare’s Tail Nature Reserve (50 minutes), or pack a picnic and hike to Loch Trool and Bruce’s Stone – commemorating Robert the Bruce’s victory over the English in 1307 – in Galloway Forest Park (half an hour).
