  • Dog-friendly site in Castle Douglas, an 18th-century market town
  • Overlooking Carlingwark Loch and five minutes’ drive from Loch Ken
  • A short walk from shops and food venues with quality local produce
Foodies who appreciate a good view just as much as a good dinner will surely want to flock to Lochside Caravan Park. Overlooking Carlingwark Loch, this site is in Castle Douglas, a small 18th-century market town self-appointed as Scotland’s first ‘food town’. Just half an hour’s drive from Dumfries, it’s also easy to reach… The main part of the town is just a five-minute walk away and your ticket to browsing independent shops, eating out and attending local events such as the annual Stewartry Agricultural Show. Castle Douglas is particularly known for its quality local food and drinks, so you should have plenty of energy for trips to Loch Ken (just five minutes’ drive north), Threave Garden (five minutes south) and Threave Castle (10 minutes). There are also several supermarkets, a post office and a petrol station in town, so it’s easy to get practical matters (snacks and such) out of the way. That leaves more time to explore Carlingwark Loch, which is dotted with islands and excellent for boating, learning to sail or picnicking. There is a lochside kids' playground within walking distance. If you’re still looking for extra things to fill your time, there are also swimming pools and tennis courts in Castle Douglas. The A75 runs past the town, providing an easy route out to sights around Dumfries and Galloway including Kirkcudbright 20 minutes’ drive away.

What customers say

This campsite offers a beautiful lochside location, a short walk from Castle Douglas town centre. Visitors frequently praise the excellent cleanliness of the facilities, friendly staff, and peaceful atmosphere. The site is well-equipped for families with play parks and open spaces. Some guests noted pitches resembling car parks and the site's open access to the public, which occasionally led to noise and shared spaces. A few reviews mentioned a lack of dishwashing facilities and Wi-Fi.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Good facilities, close to the town

Disliked Council run site in the town park, people walking dogs through the site, no real security, grass needed cutting, bins overflowing, touring pitches were literally a tarmac car park

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Good location by the loch and only 5 mins from shops and pub.
Nice grassy pitches for camping and trees providing shade in a parkland setting.
Plenty of space and beautifully kept facilities!
Quiet after 10 when we were there, a bonus when you’re in a tent!!

Disliked Nothing!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The park was good, plenty of room facilities were clean showers were OK. Site was clean and a good price.

Disliked No clear signs to where my pitch was located, fun run on in the morning then a festival the next day all day, wasn't informed of this upon booking. Would not of stayed if they had told me. The place where they set it up was right next to the tent pitches.

Zero security, council ran park so anyone can walk past and come in at any time..had zero problems, but wont stay again for that reason.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great tent pitches under the oak trees. Flat areas well spaced out and marked where to park. Toilet block was well maintained and clean. Ready to walk to the village, hand for the rest of Galloway. I would recommend.
