Broom Caravan and Campsite: Caravan

General

  • Peaceful site on a 200-acre estate with beach access
  • A 25-minute drive from Dumfries and 35 from Carlisle
  • Seven coarse fishing lakes and fully stocked tackle shop on site

Calm water and a haven for nature, lakes sure are peaceful… so how do you fancy a stay on a 200-acre private estate with seven of them on site? Stays at Broom Caravan and Campsite come with (yep, you guessed it) seven lakes and an array of wildlife to spot, including the rare natterjack toad, badgers, deer, bitterns and dingy skipper butterflies.

Keen anglers will be in heaven here – the site is 100 metres from Broom Fisheries’ bankside, so you can simply roll out of bed and set up for the day. The coarse fishing lakes are packed with a range of specimens, and there’s a fully stocked tackle shop on site for bait and other supplies.

Four-legged friends are welcome, so feel free to bring one along for some company while you wander. There’s also access to a private beach for folk who'd like to swap lake views for seaside ones, and you can hire an outdoor photography hide on site to boost your chances of a face to face encounter with the local wildlife.

When you’re up for venturing further afield, this spot makes a great base to see more of Dumfries and Galloway and beyond; guests can choose between historical market towns like Annan (less than 10 minutes’ drive) and livelier cities like Carlisle (35 minutes) when it comes to days out.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

This was my first visit to Broom Fisheries , my husband comes a lot with my family (daughter,son-in law grandchildren nieces and nephews) they camp but I’m not one for camping. My husband wanted me to see this amazing fishery we looked at the weather and it was to be a beautiful weekend. Upon checking the website Ella pod was available (£69) for 1night we arrived 10am as so my husband could get a good days fishing we fished until 1pm I went to reception got the keys and we moved the fishing equipment to outside the pod it was beautiful a pond all to ourselves to fish there was 2 fishing decks outside a table with a bench inside the pod was 2 single beds with a unit which comprised of a kettle and tea, coffee and milk all complementary also a bucket, black bag ,bin liner and hand brush with shovel.
I was not disappointed it was so beautiful and peaceful we made ourselves at home immediately set up the rods and opened the Prosecco and beer and enjoyed the beautiful scenery around us. As night began to fall the sky was like a planetarium it was a stunning scene I definitely will return and book the Ella pod again.

Absolutely amazing mini break to recharge the batteries, me and my son had a excellent time fishing the lakes and the tackle shop is like an Aladdin’s cave of goodies with anything and every you could need to fish the lakes beginner or pro.

The caravan has everything you need and surprisingly brilliant showers too. Plenty of decking space and furniture to enjoy outside overlooking a lake and a lightly wooded border where rabbits and deer could easily be spotted

Excellent site everything clean and well maintained, caravan was flawless and the hot tub well my partner and son both loved it and wanted to take it home with us. Friendly staff and always welcoming and willing to chat and offer advice.

The dogs adored the beach and will sorely miss it I believe the fells and sheep just doesn’t seem to compare they loved it and exploring all the rocks and wanting to bring chunks of driftwood home too.

All in all a excellent break lovely surroundings wildlife galore very tranquil and some brilliant fishing to boot thank you from all of us.

Pod immaculate. Perfect location, secluded overlooking fishing lake. Comfy beds, electricity, lights, tea/coffee facilities. Unfortunately weather wasn’t great when we were there but disposable bbqs are allowed with a slab outside the tent provided for this.
    Staff helpful and welcoming.
Need to bring bedding, a torch to get to the toilets (2 min walk away) at night and camping chairs were useful to sit out and enjoy the scenery.

Local attractions

If you’re looking for an alternative to a day on the lake, immerse yourself in history instead. Annan Museum (less than 10 minutes’ drive) takes you through the history of the area, or you can talk money at the Savings Banks Museum (10 minutes), where there’s a fab piggy bank collection. Other options are the Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum (25 minutes), located on the site of the former RAF Dumfries airbase, and the Dumfries Museum (half an hour), with the world's oldest working camera obscura.

As for historical sights, check out the triangular Caerlaverock Castle (25 minutes), which is surrounded by a moat and lawns, or the romantically named 13th-century Sweetheart Abbey (35 minutes). Alternatively, a visit to the grand Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens (50 minutes) can be topped off nicely with a treat in the tearoom.

If shopping is on the cards, Gretna Gateway Outlet Village (20 minutes) is the place for some retail therapy.

You can pay your respects to Scottish poet Robert Burns in Dumfries (25 minutes), taking in the statue, the mausoleum burial site and the museum at his former home, which houses various possessions including manuscripts and letters.
