Highland Gateway Glamping and Caravanning: Fully serviced pitches

General

  • Well-maintained holiday park in the Ochil hills
  • Stirling Castle and The Kelpies within a half-hour drive
  • Stopover point for North Coast 500 and Heart 200 routes

Want to cram in several different Scottish experiences all from one location? Highland Gateway Glamping and Caravanning is in a strategic Clackmannanshire spot between Clackmannan and Kincardine (about five minutes’ drive from both) and within easy reach of all sorts of things to do and places to go.

Glasgow, Stirling and the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park can all be on your schedule during a stay here: all are within a 40-minute drive. The centre of Edinburgh, meanwhile, can be reached in less than an hour.

Golfers have a choice of three courses to play on nearby, plus the option of Gleneagles (40 minutes away). There are also loads of great options around for walking and cycling: it’s a 20-minute walk or five-minute bike ride to the start of the Fife Coastal Path, and the National Cycle Network route 76 passes just by the site’s driveway.

You can also head out into the Ochil hills, just around the park, for a walk or a day of cycling – although there are some great views on site too for those who fancy taking in the scenery over a barbecue instead.

All-weather pitches here are fully serviced and have access to a play area, an Elsan disposal point and heated toilet and shower facilities. There’s also a motorhome service point that guests can use for a small extra fee.

If you’re planning a longer tour of Scotland, it may be handy to know that this site is well located for the Heart 200 route and the North Coast 500.

Please note

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Lovely little campsite with plenty of facilities for its size. Lovely serviced pitches that are well laid out. Glad the campsite allows fire pits (weather permitting in Scotland 🥲) close to Alloa to get food and other supplies. Would highly recommend it.

Not much, maybe a little awkward to locate at the start but listen to Lynn’s advice in her message.

The location and simplicity. I is a small friendly site, water, electric hook up, Wi-Fi all accessable at each pitch. The toilets were roomy and warm, and offered what you would expect from toilets. The shower cubicle was also warm (this was November), with a good shower. There could maybe have been a couple of more hooks and a shelf for toiletries, but it was managable. There is also an outdoor sink for washing dishes, etc. The owner was there to greet me on arrival, I understand this may be unusual, but Lynn was friendly and approachable if required. If simplicity and serenity is what you are looking for, this is a great site. I expect it is used mainly for an overnight stop during longer journeys, but is a great base for visiting surrounding interests.

Small quiet site. Close to all attractions. Lovely host meets you on arrival and make sure you settle in, then leaves you alone. Toilets and shower very modern and clean. I don’t think the pictures do them justice. We will go again. Will be a great stop over if going higher into the highlands.

Directions

The postcode takes you about 400 metres from the driveway. If coming from Kincardine, as you pass over the motorway in the distance you can see a farm on the left and cottages on the right. Immediately at the end of the cottages, turn right – this takes you to the campsite.

If you are coming from Clackmannan, pass the postcode position and drive for another 400 metres – just before the cottages on the left, turn left for the campsite.

Please note: All distances on this page are calculated "as the crow flies" - please check actual distance depending on your mode of travel using the Get directions button above.

Local attractions

Your main issue around here (and it’s a good problem to have…) will be deciding what to do first. Perhaps it’ll be a trip to Glasgow (35 minutes’ drive) to stroll through the West End, visit Glasgow Science Centre or admire the artwork at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum? Or maybe city life on a slightly smaller scale in Stirling (25 minutes), where you can visit the castle and National Wallace Monument?

Sticking to the open air you may like to view the huge outdoor artwork known as The Kelpies (20 minutes) or marvel at the Falkirk Wheel (25 minutes), Scotland’s only rotating boat lift. There’s also the option of a good walk or bike ride in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park (40 minutes) or following in the footsteps of the world’s best golfers at Gleneagles (40 minutes).

Want to view some animals while you’re out and about? Stop by at Briarlands Farm for a family-friendly farm day, or seek out something more exotic at Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park; both are about half an hour away.

Must see

  • National Wallace Monument (7.8 miles)
  • Royal Burgh of Stirling Visitor Centre (7.8 miles)
  • Stirling Castle (8.3 miles)
