General

  • Small and peaceful park a few steps from the beach
  • Spectacular sea views over to Jura and Islay
  • Wildlife and birdwatching haven

It's only a few steps from your accommodation to the beaut beach of Muasdale Holiday Park on the west coast of Kintyre: we reckon your dog will be delighted.

As will scenery seekers: 'perfect', 'stunning' and 'beautiful' are just a couple of the plaudits piled on the spectacular sea scenery from this park, along with an observation from one chuffed former guests pointing out who would need a telly when pitching up here…?

Muasdale is a small, peaceful and family-run park midway between Tarbert and Campbelltown, and in a coastal locale of splendid scenery, set right on the beach with striking vistas over to the islands of Islay, Jura and Gigha. The ferries are a short drive from the site for spending days island hopping; you can even get over to Ballycastle and Northern Ireland for the day via the Isle of Islay.

As you might reckon, this is wildlife and birdwatching heaven, with seals, otters and springtime nesting birds on the beach, more seals in the surrounding waters, and many a seabird overhead. It's firm fishing land too: if you don't have your kit with you, wander the beach to buy lobsters and crabs from the local fishermen.

The well-maintained park facilities include a shower block with two wash basins and private ladies' and gents' washing areas. A washing-up area, chemical toilet and waste water disposal areas, and recycling facilities are also on site.

Supplies can be picked up at the shop close by selling essentials, gifts and fishing kit, at two large supermarkets in Campbelltown, and at the shop of Glenbarr three miles away, which also has a small garden centre, a café and free wifi.

And we haven't even mentioned the sunsets around here. Take a minute now and sigh happily over those site pics.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Lovely small site sitting right on top of a very long, sandy beach (with seals) overlooking the Isles of Islay, Jura & Gigha.

The site is beautifully kept and is lovely and quiet with stunning scenery behind. It accomodates both tourers and tents with electric hook-up for either.

Facilities include: Immaculate showers & toilets, washing, fridge, plenty of picnic tables, BBQs, logs, charcoal. (The Elsan could do with being enlarged a bit but that is being really picky).

We were met on arrival by a very friendly lady who informed us of various places to go and pointed us to a wonderful glen cycle route just along the road with a gorgeous garden centre/cafe (a little piece of heaven) at the bottom of the glen.

The site is an ideal base for a visit to the Isle of Gigha which we took advantage of (a stunning little island) and is within driving distance of Cambletown or Tarbert for any shops or facilities you may need.

Not sure if Wi-Fi is available on site, we had good internet so didn't ask.

We will definitely be returning at some point in the future.

Loved how close we were to the beach and of course how friendly and accomodating the owners were. We were so lucky with the weather but we were rained in on one day, but still a gorgeous place regardless of the weather.

    Disliked:

A little road noise but it only distracted on our first night while we got used to it.

Local attractions

Get ready to go a-sailing… and along to Campbelltown for regular boat trips to Ailsa Craig, Sanda Island and around the peninsula for wildlife and whale watching.

A fast boat also goes to Ballycastle from here via Islay: from there, take a ferry back over water to reach the fab and tiny RSPB reserve of Rathlin Island (here there be puffins).

Are you a golfer? And if so, have you ever hit a ball over the Atlantic? If your response was first Aye and then a wistful Nay, take the tees to Machrihanish Golf Club above the northern tip of the Mull of Kintyre to try it out. Several other golf courses are in the area once this has whetted your golfing whistle: try Carradale and Dunaverty to start things off.

This is also whisky land, with the two distilleries of Glen Scotia and Springbank in Campbelltown. Both have gift shops (huzzah) and run regular tours.

Cycle routes
