Oban holiday park - looking out onto the isle of kerrera and onto mull in the distance.
Oban holiday park from above
Scenic holiday park

  • Scenic site 10 minutes' drive from Oban, with views to Kerrera island
  • Ferries, whisky distillery and horse riding within 10 mins' drive
  • Play area and shop on site; dogs welcome
For some folk, Oban is a jumping-off point for trips to the spectacular Scottish islands; for others, it’s a very handy location simply for sinking into the gentle pace of rural Highlands life while still keeping convenient access to shops and other amenities. Whichever of those groups you fall into, a fine base awaits at Oban Holiday Park, a spacious and peaceful site in Gallanchmore, about 10 minutes’ drive south of the Oban. It’s a scenic spot indeed, with views out over the sea to the island of Kerrera (which you can take a closer look at by boarding a ferry less than a mile away). There are plenty more options for island hopping from the harbour in Oban, whether you’re doing a grand tour or just taking day trips. The town also has a good collection of shops, restaurants and things to do, including a cinema and golf course – not forgetting the option for a stroll along the seafront at sunset, watching the boats bobbing in the harbour. Staying here isn’t all about the islands, of course – there’s a whole heap of things to see on the mainland too, including castles, gardens and a whisky distillery. Activities are plentiful too, with pony trekking and scuba diving close by as well as a good choice of places to go for walks and bike rides. On site, all is nicely convenient too, with a small food shop, chemical disposal and modern toilets and showers; there’s also a play area where the kids can have a good run about. The site is supported by natural water springs, so you'll need to boil any water you intend to consume or drink bottled water instead.

What customers say

This campsite boasts a stunning, scenic location close to Oban, with many guests praising the beautiful views and friendly, helpful staff. Facilities are generally reported as clean, though some mention they are dated and could benefit from upgrades. While many enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and spacious pitches, a significant number of reviews highlight issues with unlevel, muddy, or poorly defined pitches, particularly for larger vehicles, and concerns regarding the water supply. Ongoing development work was also noted by several visitors.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked A positive was how close the site is to Oban. Only a short 40 minute walk. The view was beautiful.

Disliked The shower and toilet blocks were dirty and not very well maintained. No warm water to wash dishes available and very muddy churned up field to park the motor home on.

Liked The location

Disliked Unfortunately too many things:
- the organization (pitches not given by the reception and as it is a big site you need to find one by yourself… and to keep it if you want to)
- the lack of a laundry service: the closest is at the other end of the town
- the lack of internet service
- the water wasn’t drinkable: they advise you to boil it but it was of a color we didn’t dare to (yellow)
- the reception was closed very early when we arrived ( 5 pm)
- the lack of hot water in one of the showers and in the wash up area

Of course, travelling and camping is a matter of adapting, so all these things are understandable and nothing really serious (apart from the water problem) but according to the price we paid which was the highest of our trip to Scotland we found it really inappropriate and overpriced

Liked Leaving

Disliked Nobody at reception on arrival very confusing as to where to pitch up for the night pitches very soft and churning up as trying to park, very unlevel and couldn’t use wedges as ground to soft. Dirty showers very run down need updating falling off doors and muddy floors. No drinking water available. Seems to be more consideration to lodges than organising anything for pitches. Spent 8 nights doing the nc500 then coming down to Oban on the way home it was the most expensive and the worst campsite we stayed at will definitely not be returning

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked There wasnt much I liked, apart from the view from the hill top...... toilets/showers were clean...

Disliked The pitches weren't defined, it was like a free for all, and had you chose to drive motorhome into town, there was no guarantee your spot would still be there on returning,
Also due to ongoing work the water was from a spring and needed to be boiled, unavoidable I guess

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Beautiful scenery, short drive into oban and lovely walks surrounding area.

Disliked No drinking water, all water needs boiled before use. No hot water to clean dishes, the area we stayed at only had one working shower which was a nightmare at busy times. Showers and toilets were closed for cleaning any time between 830 and 930 which everyone was complaining about as its thr busiest time for people. Too much work going into creating new pitch sites instead of sorting the basics first. No disabled/baby changing available, not suitable for families with young children

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked No

Disliked I left a message on there site email and phone number answer machine saying I could not make my appointment to stay there for 3 days on a touring pitch. Due to the strong winds we had earlier in the week having damaged my caravan, unfortunately no one from the caravan park could be bothered to get back to me regarding what I could do either pick a different date or a refund as I could not attend,

Local attractions

Getting out to see the surroundings? There are lots of lovely walks to be done nearby, or you can hire bikes in Oban (10 minutes’ drive) for scenic cycle rides. Achnalarig Riding Stables (10 minutes) is another option, for pony and horse riding lessons or treks – or you might like to see what’s out at sea by joining a scuba trip from Puffin Dive Centre (five minutes’ walk). Once you’ve viewed Kerrera from your pitch, head up the road (five minutes’ drive) to board a ferry over to the island – there’s a great seven-mile walking trail that runs from the harbour and will show you some of the island’s best bits. For other islands, it’s a 10-minute drive to Oban harbour, where services run to Lismore, Mull, Iona and Coll as well as more far-flung destinations. Back on the mainland, you may like to stop by at Dunstaffnage Castle (20 minutes), the Green Shoots garden (15 minutes) and Cruachan Dam Visitor Centre (35 minutes) – and don't forget a dram at Oban Distillery (10 minutes)…
