  • Quiet site with country views from every pitch
  • Forfar a 10-minute drive; five minutes’ walk to Murton nature reserve
  • Dog-walking area and underfloor-heated modern bathrooms on site
Looking for a peaceful park in Scotland? There’s more than a wee chance you’ll have a top time at Foresterseat Caravan Park less than 10 minutes’ drive from Forfar in the Five Glens of Angus… this site’s a scenic place for sitting with a beer at the end of the day while looking out across a wild setting. It's an adults-only setup here too, so you'll be guaranteed grownup company and no kids scampering around. With an extended burnside dog-walking area at the park and Murton’s nature reserve across the road (about a five-minute wander away) for lakeside lopes and birdwatching – or tasting traditional cream teas at the café – it’s also a sweet spot for strolling. The park connects with Chester’s Path leading into Forfar too, meaning the hour-long circular trot to town goes through lush countryside via the nearby golf course. In the other direction, you can pass lochs like Rescobie and Balgavie on your way to the walled Pitmuies Gardens with their alpine meadows and marked paths or reroute yourself north west to Angus (20 minutes) for bistros and pubs serving traditional Scottish food as well as international fare. You can get grub here or head back towards the site for eats at the restaurant and bar next door. Other facilities at this well-kept, purpose-built park include a modern shower, toilet and washroom block with underfloor heating to keep toes toasty on cooler Scottish mornings and evenings.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Stunningly well kept site, beautiful pitches well spaced out with privacy planting. Shower block was fantastic! Really hot, powerful showers with ample room, hairdryers, no push button - absolutely brilliant!! Quiet site at night, walk by the river direct from the site.

Disliked: No dislikes as far as the site is concerned but for other potential campers info - we walked down the main road with our small dog (not a pleasant journey as very busy and fast road) a short distance to the nature reserve hoping to grab a coffee. Unfortunately we were headed off at the pass by very pleasant officials who told us no dogs allowed anywhere on site including the cafe. Thankfully he permitted us to walk back to the site using the safer nature reserve path. We decided to cut our losses and grab a drink at Sinclairs restaurant which is immediately behind the site. Unfortunately Sinclairs isn't open Mondays or Tuesdays (when we were pitched) so couldn't drink or dine here either. With no other options we decided to walk the Chesters walk beside the site but thid was very overgrown and sodden wet so had to bail out. We ended up staying on site the whole time we were there, which for some, after not a particularly active holiday would suit. Sadly for us who like to explore directly from sites once parked and set up rather than move the motorhome and try to find parking etc we felt restricted. We'd stay again but next time with a caravan so we could leave the site and explore in a car.

Local attractions

When it comes to culture, Scotland’s got it in spades. For a trip with a historical bent make your way to Glamis Castle (20 minutes’ drive from the park) for a guided tour of a thousand-year-old building that was the childhood home of the Queen Mother or drop by Arbroath Abbey (20 minutes) – another swish old structure to visit – to see the Declaration of Arbroath, arguably the most well-known document in Scottish history. Go south to Dundee (30 minutes’ drive) for the 15th-century Broughty Castle Museum on the Tay estuary, a place of top views and geography exhibits, or investigate the nation’s modern heritage at The McManus Dundee's Art Gallery & Museum’s gothic revival building. Once you’ve nodded your head thoughtfully at all the 19th-to-20th-century pieces here, stop by the Verdant Works to learn about the former jute production industry in this part of the world. Worn out just hearing about all these educational expeditions? You can always get some fresh air in the countryside at The Glens just outside of the city instead…
