  • Peaceful hardstanding pitches close to the Aberdeenshire coast
  • Gardenstown five minutes' drive; 10 minutes to Macduff or Banff
  • Dogs welcome, with dedicated dog walk area on site
Every so often you come across a site where the owners just seem to know all the things caravan or motorhome owners need to keep themselves happy for a night or few on their travels. And Gamrie Bay Caravan Site, up on the Aberdeenshire coast, is one of those places. This quiet site is fairly simple in style (no clubhouse, adventure playground or entertainment here…) but it’s got all the essentials sorted for a comfortable and peaceful stop near the seaside. That means you’ll be parked up on well-spaced hardstanding pitches that all have lovely rural views as well as access to electric, waste and water connections. A chemical waste unit and motorhome service point are also in place, and there’s a handy information bothy to help you decide what to do during your stay. This is a site that’s entirely geared up for caravans and motorhomes, with no tent camping allowed. (There are no showers or toilets on site, so you’ll need to be self sufficient on the bathroom front.) Dogs are welcome to join you for a stay here, and will be able to have a good run around at the dedicated dog walk area. Heading out and about is likely first to take you to the nearby village of Gardenstown, which is five minutes’ drive away and has a pretty fishing harbour at its heart, along with a couple of shops, a café and a pub/restaurant. From the village you can walk to Mohr Head or to the cute village of Crovie. The bigger towns of Macduff and Banff are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for more shops, attractions and places to eat.

Liked: The owners were very welcoming and assured us they were on hand if anything was needed. It was made clear before we booked that toilet and shower facilities were not available at the site so this was not a problem. The site was very well maintained and pitches were spacious, it was easy to hook up to water and electricity. Facilities to dispose of grey water and chemical waste were easy to use. Overall a welcoming, attractive site. which we, as newbies, found to be excellent.

Disliked: Nothing!

Liked: It’s a lovely clean, quiet spot with a good walk into Gardenstown and lovely places nearby to visit. I won’t tell you what the owner did for us (in case everyone wants the same) but suffice to say they went above and beyond and people like this make the world a better place.
