  • Small rural park three miles from Dungarvan
  • A 10-minute drive to Waterford Greenway; 15 minutes from mountains
  • Pub a short drive away; mountain trail nearby
The Getaway is a proper rural patch to plot down in and unwind. With wild open spaces on site and the Comeragh Mountains starting roughly 15 minutes’ drive away, nature is real close here – as are beaches, woods and the historic port town of Dungarvan (10 minutes’ drive away). Whether you’re bounding out onto nearby walking trails towards mountain summits and sublime scenery or just chilling out beside a firepit, this site is a good place to clock in for some peaceful downtime. And for a more challenging escape, walking tours for tough trails may be booked close by. You’ll also want to steal away to the local town, Dungarvan, where there are lively cafés, restaurants and bars along the quayside with food from all corners, including tapas, fine dining, pub grub and seafood brought to the table from local trawlers in Helvick. Every Thursday, the town hosts a farmers' market with fresh local food too. While it’s easy to get caught up shopping in the town or swaying to traditional live music in the town’s buzzy nightlife, there’s also a bar and restaurant just five minutes’ drive away from the site. The family-run hole has homecooked food and a large, covered beer garden to unwind in after a hard day’s hiking. On site, dogs are allowed in motorhomes for those of you who have brought along a canine family member. Other facilities include a toilet block and washing-up area.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked Booking through Pitchup was very easy with clear helpful information about the site facilities and directions. Prior to the arrival day I was contacted with a reminder note and welcome information. On arrival to site there is clear instructions on the gate about access and a telephone number for Hillary the site owner who makes herself available for questions or help on other site issues if needed every lovely welcoming lad. Now, to the site itself .... it's one of the most well run, clean, welcoming sites I've visited. It is full of rustic charm with access to a 'Nook' a communal space with is a delightfully and tastefully converted stone outbuilding where campervan owners can access a comfortable lounge space with a small utility area for washing up, use of a fridge and a dining table and even comfortable seating area. The whole site offers a safe, serene and peaceful location which allows for quiet contemplation surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape of undulating hills and moorland. I would highly recommend this place to stay and plan to revisit sometime soon. 5 star

Disliked Our bed was too small!

From the manager: We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay

Just so other people do not read this and misunderstand, there was the offer of the sofa bed also. The Cabin does have a twin option.

Hope to see you another time

Electric optional hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked Place absolutely gorgeous

Disliked Owner is a nightmare. She keep giving out to people about everything. Like trailer tent with waning she doesn't like. Or even camper with waning. Look at my comments in youtube go to a vlog called Charlie and me vlog and look for The Getaway. I never go back. Avoid Avoid

From the manager: Hi Jackie

I'm sorry that I so clearly annoyed you but we got our wires crossed when you arrived.

As you know from our original conversation, we are actually a Motorhome and Glamping site that takes a couple of none electric small tents in the summer just as an add on, as people are always asking

I tried to help you out and let you use the Motorhome pitch for your tent and it will be the last time I do this because of what's happened here.

All the very best
Hilary

Local attractions

Into the mountains you go… on the Cruachan Walking Trail (five minutes’ walk), you’ll be tearing up a three-hour circular trail to the summit of Kilnafrehan Mountain, and the views are motley - the Waterford coastline, Dungarvan, The Comeragh and the Knockmealdown Mountains. Trails aren’t just mountainous around here, though. In the dog-friendly Colligan Wood (10 minutes’ drive), there's the riverside and forest and the Waterford Greenway (10 minutes) doubles up as a cycleway along an old 46-kilometre railway track through the Ballyvoyle Tunnel and past three viaducts with views of sea, mountains and rivers (cafés and pub along the way, of course). In Villierstown (25 minutes), there are more forest walking trails, but also riverboat trips, kayaking and heritage sites along the Blackwater River Valley and in Ring (20 minutes), coastal scenery and seaweed baths in the Solas Na Ma spa. Meanwhile, Cappoquin (25 minutes) is baked goods heaven, while Lismore (half an hour) is another historic hole with a riverside castle, events and a heritage centre. The local town Dungarvan (10 minutes) has culture aplenty, with its castle, St Augustine's Church, museum and arts centre, and also 10 minutes’ drive away from the site, there are three scenic golf courses and Clonea beach.
