  • Spacious Donegal coast site with sea views and private beach
  • A 10-minute drive from Moville and 45 minutes from Derry/Londonderry
  • Dog-friendly site with access to fishing; just off Wild Atlantic Way
Sea views and seclusion in a sparsely populated corner of Ireland’s northernmost county – you should certainly find space to breathe at Fort Apache Luxury Caravan and Glamping Tents. This stretch of the Donegal coastline is known for being wild and unspoilt – and you’ll get great views of it from this seafront site, which is just off the Wild Atlantic Way and looks right out over a beach to the ocean beyond. Not that you’ll have to content yourselves just with the views… less than a mile from the main site is a private sandy beach where you can go paddling well away from any crowds. Elsewhere around this area are plenty of opportunities to get active in the open air – perhaps walks along the coast path, some time exploring the area's old Famine ruins, or a bit of sea fishing, or some watersports, or a chance to feel the wind in your hair as you ride horses on the beach? Another popular activity around these parts involves settling into a traditional pub for a pint with a backdrop of live music, so it’s worth seeking out some of the little hostelries that dot the area – the seaside villages of Culdaff and Moville (both 10 minutes’ drive away) are both good places for such things, as well as for shops to pick up supplies for barbecues or campfires back on site. The vibe on site is decidedly rural: there’s plenty of space around the place for barbecues, games, kite flying and the like, and dogs are catered for with their own dog park to run about in. Being well away from urban settlements also means that your nearest neighbours are the cows and sheep that live in the surrounding fields…

Local attractions

Earn yourself a pint of Guinness in one of the local pubs with some outdoor adventures locally – Moville (10 minutes’ drive) is a good place to start, as an activity centre there can sort days of sea kayaking, gorge walking, horse riding, sailing, orienteering, archery and other ways to work up a thirst. If you’d rather spend time giving your walking boots a workout, there are some fab areas to aim for around here: Carrickabraghy Castle, Glenevin Waterfall and Ireland’s northernmost point Malin Head are all within a half-hour drive. Beach-based horse rides and rural alpaca walks are both about half an hour away as well. Other nearby attractions include the Inishowen Maritime Museum & Planetarium (15 minutes) and Doagh Famine Village (25 minutes), both of which should give you a grasp of the area’s history and culture. If you find yourself craving a bit of city time, it’s a 45-minute drive to Derry/Londonderry to walk the city walls, see the Bogside Murals and stroll across the Peace Bridge.
