  • Peaceful Wild Atlantic Way site five minutes’ drive from sandy beaches
  • In Miltown Malbay, 25 minutes’ drive from the famed Cliffs of Moher
  • Electric hook-up, fresh and black water facilities and secure gates
Hols on Ireland’s west coast come highly recommended for many reasons, not least the stunning sights this part of the country is famed for. Tom Malone’s Pub Parking, a family-friendly aire in the small town of Miltown Malbay, County Clare, is particularly well-placed for the most scenic of explores. Clare’s big draw is the Cliffs of Moher, spectacularly soaring cliffs 25 minutes’ drive from the site. Movie buffs may know them as the Princess Bride’s Cliffs of Insanity, or as the cliffs housing Slytherin’s locket in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, but even those not familiar with either title should be able to appreciate the trails and views, and O’Brien’s Tower. This is walking country too: paths can be followed from atop the cliffs to the small village of Doolin (where boats can be caught for trips along the base of the cliffs and out to the Aran Islands), or guests can opt instead to journey inland to the Burren, a UNESCO geo park crisscrossed with walking trails. Its gateway, Corofin, is 30 minutes from the site. It's worth noting that this is an aire rather than a campsite and so it doesn't have full campsite facilities. It does, however, have electric hook-ups and fresh and black water facilities available (although there's no wifi). Stays should feel peaceful too, as guests’ sleep will go undisturbed: a secure gate blocks vehicle access from 10.30pm until 7am (unless previously arranged). Please note that pitches here are for motorhomes only – the site does not accept caravans, so please don't book a motorhome pitch for a caravan as you will be turned away.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: To be honest not a great deal to like ...location close to shops and pubs etc. And fairly level.

Disliked: Was basically gravel area with very little else. Have stopped in better car parks. One toilet which was damp and in need of repairs. No showers as expected but no washing facilities either. Electric was very limited at 4amps. No staff on site. Not secure as advertised.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Chez, We would like to clarify that our site is not a campsite it is an Aire de Services which if you have experience of travelling on the continent you will know is a 'parking area with basic services' such as EHU, fresh water, chemical toilet and waste water. An Aire does not provide any other services such as toilets, showers or wash up facilities. However we do provide toilets and the basic services and we price accordingly. We are very clear in the description on the Pitch Up website as to what we provide and what we do not. Again for your information we provide 6amp electric hook up which will generally run anything 12V, it will not run a hairdryer or domestic/house kettle. Because it is off season the area is very quite and there is no reason for 24/7 staff or security on site therefore staff come and go to the site during the day. The managers phone number is clearly visible at the entrance if a guest needs to make contact.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: I was very ill whilst here and the owners couldn’t do enough for us. Walking distance from the small town centre, has everything you could reasonably require

Disliked: Nothing

From the manager: We really hope you got home safely and that you have recovered well.

Much better than we had expected for an aire.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked: The wife and level site, with plenty of room at each pitch. It is just off the Main Street so we were able to go and enjoy a meal In a very nice bar. The toilet block on the site was very clean and perfectly adequate. We were able to add electric hook up once we arrived, which was great. A large field to walk our dog was appreciated. We would definitely recommend this site.

Disliked: Nothing. It is what it says it is and more.

From the manager: Thank you very much for the review..not sure about the wife bit though! 😂

Andrew S. The reviewer booked through Pitchup.com

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Nothing didn’t even stay.

Disliked: Everything, this was a totally uninviting site. I was aware it had no facilities but COME ON!!! Talk about a dump. If I were pitch up I would ditch this place from my site without delay. Do not stay there even for free!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Andrew, We are so so so so sorry you did not like our site, no our 'dump' as you called it! We are a small business and reviews are so important to us because we can improve what we offer. We feel your review is very unfair as you don't say anywhere what specifically you hated so much so I'm afraid it is impossible for us to work on improving things. You even give a rating in your review for Wifi but as per our description we DO NOT PROVIDE WIFI, sorry felt I also have to use caps somewhere in my response just to compete with your review. Regarding the lack of facilities as you put it, our site is not a campsite it is an Aire de Services which if you have experience of travelling on the continent, well anywhere really, you will know is a 'parking area with services' such as EHU, fresh water, chemical toilet and waste water and we do provide these basic services and price accordingly. Our site is specifically targeted at campervans/motorhomes who have their own on board toilet facilities however in addition to the basic services we also provide toilets but we do not provide showers and this is very clearly stated in the description on the Pitch Up website therefore it would be very beneficial going forward Andrew for you to actually read the description first as it is clear what is provided and what is not.

Ok for an overnight stay.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Didn't like a lot about the site, good sized pitches. Great meal at the Bake House restaurant on the main street,a two minute walk away.

Disliked: The toilets are very basic for the price charged.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Stewart, Would there be any chance you could be a little bit more specific about what you did not like about our Aire de Services. Reviews are generally written for two purposes: 1. They allow potential guests to make decisions on the information provided by others who have actually stated on the Aire and 2.They allow the owners to make improvements based on the information provided by the reviewer. You don't actually say anything in your review that allows us to improve. Our site is not a campsite it is an Aire de Services which if you have experience of travelling on the continent you will know is a 'parking area with services' such as EHU, fresh water, chemical toilet and waste water and we do provide these basic services and price accordingly. Non-electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Close to a town with very local pubs which was really nice

Disliked: Just a parking spot with dirty toilets with bad smell. Nothing fancy up there, don’t have big expectations!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Yanick Tremblay for your review. We apologise for your poor experience with us, we do clean the toilets several times daily. Unfortunately sometimes guests leave the toilets in an unpleasant state and we may not get back to clean them immediately. We do provide more than 'dirty toilets', we provide electricity hook up, chemical toilet, grey water for disposing of waste water and you can also take on fresh water. We have security gates and night time security lighting and we do price low and accordingly.

Local attractions

A short stroll from the site will bring guests to the centre of Miltown Malbay, where experiencing traditional Irish music, dancing and storytelling is a matter of wandering into a pub. Keen to know more? The Music Makers of West Clare heritage centre, five minutes’ stroll from base, will provide a grounding in the history of the art form. For the full Clare experience, it’s just 30 minutes’ drive to Lisdoonvarna, the famed home of Europe’s biggest singles matchmaking festival, and 30 minutes in the opposite direction will bring explorers to Kilkee and the start of Loop Head, where scenic drives along a largely unexplored stretch of coastline and pitstops at the active Loop Head lighthouse await. Fans of TV’s Father Ted will want to make a pilgrimage to the Father Ted house. A 45-minute drive will bring fans to Craggy Island's parochial house (no boating required) and, if the group won’t be too disappointed at the different interior, afternoon tea can be had if booked in advance. Lazier days can easily be had by sticking closer to the site. It’s less than five minutes’ drive to sandy stretches at White Strand and Spanish Point for safe swims, and Spanish Point is a must for surf lessons. Fancy ditching the car? It’s a 25-minute walk to White Strand, and 40 minutes to Spanish Point.
