  • Small peaceful Co. Antrim site a mile from the coast
  • Five minutes' drive to Dunluce Castle; 20 minutes to The Dark Hedges
  • Rural views towards Giant's Causeway, two miles from Portrush
What a properly prime position this is for Co. Antrim holidays… Highview Holiday Park is a small, peaceful site on the north coast of Northern Ireland, two miles from the fab resort of Portrush and a 10-minute drive from a good clutch of amenities in Coleraine. Not that it’s all about access to the local towns… for this is a spot that’s also got grand rural views stretching out to the Giant’s Causeway (and glimpses of Scotland beyond it on a fine day). It’s also within easy reach of a whole host of Northern Ireland’s top attractions, including the Dark Hedges and Ballintoy Harbour (both must-sees for Game of Thrones fans…), plus the Old Bushmills Distillery, Mussenden Temple and Carrick-A Rede Rope Bridge. Surfing, fishing, hikes and bike rides are all easily sorted in the surrounding area too, and the great stretch of sand at Portrush is a mere mile away. For food, there’s a small tuck shop on site, a coffee shop about five minutes’ walk away and a hotel serving up fab food and drink half a mile away. For more eats and drinks, take the five-minute drive to the centre of Portrush for restaurants, pubs and evening entertainment. This is a compact site with accordingly minimal facilities, but it’s got all the essentials covered, including a motorhome service point, a laundry area and a playground. It's also won praise from numerous previous guests for its spotless washrooms and the cheery welcome offered by owner Davy.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: A small quiet site with good lighting. The bays are clearly defined by low hedging. Davy was onsite to welcome us and show us around the facilities and advise about local restuarants etc. Everything was fresh and clean with thoughtful touches. Hooks in the shower cubicles and a fold down seat*****, a mop and blade available to ensure that the showers might be left as we found them. Soaps, paper towels and toilet roll which I noticed he checked and replenished regularly. A clean and tidy bin and recycling area as well as good facilities for washing.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Could get in for a single night at a weekend

Disliked: Pitches way too small. Just a car park in reality. Toilets and showers ok though and a friendly welcome. Not really a holiday ‘park’ as no room to do anything.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. Bank holiday weekends are very busy in Portrush so apologies if you felt cramped. Nice to meet you 😎

Local attractions

The list of easy days out around here reads a bit like a ticklist of the most popular attractions in Northern Ireland. Portrush (five minutes’ drive) is a good place to start, whether you’re off there to hit the beach, play a round at Royal Portrush Golf Club or have a go on the rides at the legendary Barry’s Amusements. A similar drive of a few minutes will also get you to the atmospheric Dunluce Castle, out on a particularly pic-worthy rocky outcrop. Stretch your horizons just a little further from the site and you can also take in a few sips at the Old Bushmills Distillery (10 minutes), a frolic on the beach at Portstewart Strand (20 minutes) and a stroll round another seafront icon at Mussenden Temple (20 minutes). Of course one can’t come to these parts without visiting the famed Giant’s Causeway (15 minutes) and at least contemplating crossing the Carrick-A Rede Rope Bridge (20 minutes). Also unmissable for fans of Game of Thrones are Ballintoy Harbour and spooky setting The Dark Hedges, both 20 minutes away.
