Skate ramp at The Wave

  • Relaxed, family-friendly site next to The Wave surfing lake in Bristol
  • Bristol Zoo Project 10 minutes’ drive and Aerospace Bristol 15 minutes
  • Clubhouse with bar, café and surfing shop; skate ramp and play park
Turn your surfing session into an overnight adventure when you book a stay at The Wave, a fabulous pop-up site located a mere 200 metres from the surfing lake. There’s plenty here for everyone to do, whether you’re with friends and family or striking out alone; master the waves with a surf lesson, soak up the vibe at the skate ramp or take the kids to the play park before settling down for the night right next door. The surf is pumping at The Wave every day from early in the morning, and a stay here puts you in pole position mere metres from the shoreline. You can wake up to the sound of the waves and be catching them within minutes – and after a day on the water, head to the lively Clubhouse for delicious local food and a front-row seat to the antics on the lake. The Clubhouse’s café is open from post dawn-patrol breakfasts right the way through the day, until the last bite of pizza after a sunset session in the evening. And if you’ve forgotten any gear, never fear, as you can pick up all the essentials in the surf shop, from boards to equipment, clothes and souvenirs. The surfing may well be the focus here, but you'll also be well placed for other activities should you want them – ice skating, zorbing and climbing the masts at SS Great Britain perhaps, or gentler times visiting Bristol Zoo Project and Aerospace Bristol.

What customers say

This campsite offers a lovely setting, with pitches close to The Wave for easy access to activities. Guests appreciated the spacious, generally flat pitches and the availability of on-site amenities like a cafe and bar. However, multiple reviews highlight significant issues with the campsite's upkeep. Facilities, including toilets and showers, were frequently described as dirty, with some experiencing blockages and a lack of basic supplies like soap and toilet paper. The access road features very harsh speed bumps, causing difficulty for vehicles. Additionally, guests were disappointed to find that access to The Wave required separate, advance booking.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Nice lady at the gate.

Disliked The comercial shows the lake/ the Wave - but doesn' t say, that you have to book it extra way in advance.
So we weren't even allowed to put a foot in the water.
Everybody was excited to have fun there. It was a very big dissapointment.
The campground itself ist just a field with dirty facilities.
Nothing to choose without access to the wave. There a much nicer campgrounds southwards.

Liked Bar area open until 10/11pm at night which isn’t expensive at all where there is plug sockets where you can charge your phone.
Cafe, farm shop and milkshake vending machine as you immediately enter the campsite.
Clean toilet and shower blocks.
Really friendly staff.

Disliked The distance between the farm shop, cafe and milkshake vending machine and the field where you pitch your own tent but this can also be driven.

Liked The car boot on the Sunday

Disliked Really inaccessible
From entrance to camping pitches is a really long drive with extremely harsh speed bumps the staff were unhelpful when it came to checking in couldn’t find our booking and started checking in other guests before dealing with our booking the pitch was bumpy unlevel had massive craters all over the thorns from the bushes were all over the pitch which kept stabbing us the showers were nice and warm but were really dirty and and unsanitary the wave was cool to look at for about five minutes the cafe at the front and at the wave were hideously expensive and inhospitable
Just not worth visiting at all cool concept just really impractical was told there were no other available pitches so had to leave

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Proximity to The Wave for easy access to and from tent
It was a quiet site
Pitch sizes were large and generally flat

Disliked When we arrived at 6.30pm Friday there was no soap in the toilets, the men's toilet paper ran out and the sink flooded. We complained at 2pm Sat but they were not cleaned and restocked until a few hours later.
No paper towels the entire weekend,
The single water tap was a long walk from the back of the campsite
There are no washing up facilities, so it was either in the dirty toilet sinks (causing the flooding) or carrying water from the far away tap.
Showers were grubby
The pitches aren't clearly marked and people were confused and ended up pitching or parking across the roads. The enormous motor homes which didn't fit in the pitches were blocking views and roads.

Disliked I didn’t like that you couldn’t cook anything with barbecue and also going with the car to
The campsite , in the humps are quite high so our car got stuck under and scratched so it was very challenging to go out anytime because of these

Liked Great place to stay. Lovely setting to be near the waves. Facilities are great!

Disliked Only complaints, the speed bumps to get in are way too violent for a car full of stuff, they need to be more gentle. The grass was spiky in places and the rule for no cooking is a pain. Other than that though am very happy.
