Out on a walk

  • Friendly Wiltshire farm site with views to Salisbury Cathedral
  • Just off the A354, three miles from central Salisbury
  • A 20-minute walk from the closest pub; direct access to footpaths
Set on a large grassy meadow, this small and friendly site in Wiltshire is conveniently located for Salisbury, Stonehenge, the New Forest and the Jurassic Coast. You can expect a warm welcome, a good dose of local knowledge and fabulous views here – the impressive 123-metre spire of Salisbury Cathedral is visible from this quiet spot, as are acres of green countryside. Salisbury Campsite at Bake Farm is a place for back to basics camping: its simple but well kept facilities include chemical disposal, free wifi, USB charging, e-bike charging, toilets and a warm shower. Essentials sorted, it's time to relax: and that's perhaps best done in the large repurposed field shelter, where you can take a seat and gaze out over the stunning views (drink in hand optional, but recommended…). The site is conveniently set a few hundred yards back from the A354 road, making it a breeze to get into Salisbury city centre and make use of its public pool, railway station, arts centre, cafés and shops. Coombe Bissett, a mile in the other direction, also has a popular local pub (about 20 minutes' walk away through the fields). It's also fabulously easy to get to Salisbury Racecourse, which is just a couple of miles away. This outdoorsy spot (where you'll be able to pick your own pitch, by the way) is also a hotspot for walkers. Guests here have direct access to a good range of rights of way. Popular strolls in the area include the 25-mile-long Clarendon Way that runs from Salisbury to Winchester, hiking up Harnham Hill and ambling around Salisbury's water meadows. Children are welcome here, but please note the site is designed to be quiet so there are no play facilities or attractions for them.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, clean campsite with beautiful views and friendly, helpful hosts. It offers plenty of space, good basic facilities including USB charging points and a freezer, and free WiFi. Located conveniently for Salisbury and local walks, it is highly recommended for a relaxing rural escape. Some guests noted minor issues with noise from a nearby road and the limited number of showers.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked A lovely little campsite looking over rolling farmland towards Salisbury. Basic facilities but very clean and a very warm shower. Small barn area with benches so you can have you meal in shelter if camping in a small tent. A freezer was available with freeze packs to borrow which was a bonus and USB sockets and a plug socket available to charge devices. Their was also the bonus of free WiFi that covered the entire site. We really enjoyed our stay on this very peaceful site and eould definately stay again.

Liked Very Tidy and clean.
Near Salisbury Location.

Reasonable cost.

Disliked Will always like to see a cost option for solo traveller. e,g, backpacker rate.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Beautiful location! A flat, spacious site with clean facilities.

Disliked Only one shower - not an issue if the site isn't busy but would be difficult if it was. No fridge - but there is a little freezer for ice packs.

Local attractions

After exploring the historic buildings of Salisbury, head even further back in time at Stonehenge (20 minutes' drive), surely one of the country's most recognisable sights. More ancient history is within your reach if you drive to Avebury (55 minutes), home to a spectacular stone circle and other Neolithic sites. Meanwhile, if exploring Salisbury has you in the mood for more urban days out, you might like to take the train (or drive) to Bath (roughly an hour). To the south, there's the New Forest National Park (20 minutes), where cycling, walking, country pubs and semi-wild ponies, donkeys and pigs make for great family-friendly days out. Even more wild animals are on display at Longleat Safari Park (40 minutes), and there are grand estates to explore at Stourhead (45 minutes) and Highclere Castle (50 minutes). In such lovely countryside there are plenty of options for outdoor activities – ask on site for top tips on places to go walking, cycling, fishing and wild swimming, or play games of golf and tennis.
