  • Peaceful rural site one mile from the Bratton Camp and White Horse
  • A 15-minute drive from Longleat; 35 minutes from Bath and Stonehenge
  • Horse riding on site; short-term accommodation for horses and ponies
Ready for a splendid wild ride in the Wiltshire countryside? A horse riding school for the past 30 years, Long River Farm is also a dog-friendly spot for peaceful rural stay… plot down in the paddocks and take a wander off site to admire the chalk horse-shaped workmanship at the Iron Age Bratton Camp and White Horse, just 20 minutes’ walk away from the site. If you’re on a mission to tick off the area’s historical sites, Stonehenge and Bath’s Roman spas are both 35 minutes’ drive away. As for those with an affinity for wildlife, Longleat’s safari park is 15 minutes’ drive away. That’s not forgetting the 100 acres of countryside, woodland trails and school horses, pigs, chicken, sheep and goats on site. Got a pony or horse of your own? Handily, the site has short-term accommodation available for both, great if you need an overnight stay before a show. If not, you can jump into the stirrups for the first time (or brush up on your skills) with horse riding and trekking run by the site’s school. If you haven't already plotted out your route, it may suit you to put your faith in the surrounding bridleways and footpaths that head deeper into the Salisbury Plain. Perhaps call in at one of several supermarkets, pubs, restaurants or cafés in the local town within 15 minutes’ walk of the site (the rail here also has direct links to London Paddington). As this site is relatively new to the game, there are basic facilities around the site (and some not yet up and running), including wifi in the reception area.

What customers say

This campsite offers wonderful panoramic views, with a location ideal for walking to Westbury's White Horse and enjoying paragliding. Reviewers praise the friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities, and the pleasant atmosphere. Safari tents are a good size with decking. The on-site cafe offers a decent food choice, and the presence of various animals, including horses and alpacas, is a highlight. Some minor points include parking away from tents and a need for more washing-up sinks.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Superb views.
Cute farmyard animals (horses, baby goats, llama, alpaca).
Very clean toilet areas.
Powerful, hot, showers.
Electric kettle.
Two sinks for washing up.
Coffee machine in the cafe.
Useful firepits available for hire.
Lots of dry firewood in neighbouring fields.

Disliked Coffee a bit overpriced.
Sloping field, not as many flat spaces for pitching tents as one might have liked.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely place, lots of space, animals to visit (alpacas, goats, peacocks). And plenty of horses from the equestrian Center. Facilities also helping a comfortable stay with good number of toilets and showers, lounge with kettle, books, some toys etc. and from about 8-4 also the chance to buy coffee food from the cafe. Shops not too far and view to white chalk horse across the road. Oh and a chance to ride as well (we didn’t but other campers did).

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely campsite, nice and quiet, the views were incredible & our children loved seeing all the animals.

Disliked The spiders in the toilet/shower facilities, the long & uneven grass in the camping field, the prices in the cafe

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review.

We haven't had any substantial rain for weeks, the grass is very short and dry, so I took the decision not to mow whilst we have visitors, the tractor and mower are quite loud and would disturb the peacefulness.

Have spoken to our cleaner about the shower spiders.

The cafe uses products from local family farm/butcher, so there is a cost difference, against cash and carry products. We feel the pricing is justified for better quality.

We have two large 1100ltr bins, one general waste and one mixed recycling, unfortunately when both bins were put out. Both bins just ended up getting filled with general waste! So I try and keep the recycling bin separate, collect the general waste (hence the smaller bins, as I can reach inside the 1100ltr ones!) and then sort it myself into recycling.

Thanks for staying. All the best

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Beautiful surroundings. Scenic and peaceful large grass paddock pitches. Good reception area with WiFi and decent toilet facilities. Close to the white horse carved in the chalk hillside. Easy access to Warminster for the annual Imber Bus and good proximity for Stone Henge. Ideal for equestrian types, but still nice for non-horsey people. Nice to see the miniature horses/goats/lamas and peacocks.

From the manager: Thank you for your great review. With regards to your Breakfast experience. The cafe meat products are source direct from a local farm/butcher, their sausages are made from 72% pork, with very little additives. So may taste different from Supermarket ones. All the best.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Fantastic site with good clean washing and washing up facilities with hot water. There is also a cafe for food and drinks. Lovely paddock fields with a beautiful view snd lots of space for children to play.
Arrival was easy and we could choose a site for our tent ourselves. The ground has very few stones, and is reasonably flat.
The children loved watching the goats, peacocks and horses, and you can book riding lessons if you wish.

Local attractions

From sifting through flea markets around the Pulteney Bridge to touring the Roman baths and climbing Bath Abbey’s tower… Bath (35 minutes’ drive) has plenty of places for a historical outing. Which museum will you choose? Fashion Museum Bath (35 minutes), The Holburne Museum (half an hour) and its gardens or the No. 1 Royal Crescent (35 minutes)? Another city within reach, Salisbury (45 minutes) is well-known for its medieval cathedral and the Magna Carta but it also has museums, escape rooms, punting, artist studios or bicycle hire if you’d like a leisurely pedal around. Longleat (15 minutes) likes to show off its variety of things to do, too. There’s the Longleat Hedge Maze (20 minutes) if you’re willing to muddle your way through, the big cats of the safari park or the pleasure gardens of the Elizabethan house. Impressed by the architecture? Then, you may want to wonder a little over the remains of Old Wardour Castle (40 minutes), its grotto and spiral staircase, or Nunney Castle’s ruined tower and moats (25 minutes).
